Well I haven't posted on here for some time, as I was trying to become debt free plus Save for a wedding it obviously wasn't working!
Unfortunatley due to the stress of everything myself and OH cancelled our wedding about 4-5 weeks before it was due to take place, I have to tell you a weight had been lifted, the whole thing had spiralled out of control, and was not the wedding we had originally plannedAll suppliers have been great and although we have lost deposits didnt ask for any more money although the same can not be said for the venue! We are currently getting legal advice around the contract we signed, as were happy to pay the venue some money but what they have asked for is just absolutely ridiculus!
I now also have a lot of wedding related items to get on ebay!
Yesterday I opened a savings account - which im sadly quite excited about!
Anyway off to make a quick cuppa before work!:j6 debts cleared since joining MSE:j:eek: Remaining debts... Very / Halifax Loan/ A&L / Virgin cc / Lloyds / Sister :smileyheaGetting Married 04.12.10 - The MSE way :smileyhea:dance: Making this house a home :dance:0 -
Hi! Just read your diary and wanted to stop by and wish you luck.
I think if the wedding was causing un-necessary stress and you both agreed it was the right thing to do then you were right to put back it back for now. Theres no rush after all you have your whole lives ahead of you so good for you.
Im currently engaged - have been since end of november 2004 - and we always planned to have a llooonnnnggg engagement and get more financially secure etc etc before wedding and we are still no closer now, but it really doesnt bother us. Seems to bother everyboday else though!
I will subscribe to your diary and look forward to following your progress.

hi, can't have been an easy decision to cancel the wedding but if it was the right decision it was a good move. At least when you do plan it again for the last time you'll be able to control it more, get what you want, and you'll have had more time to get yourself in the right financial position to start married life. It's almost my first wedding anniversary and we saved really hard to pay cash, but i've found that since then i've managed to clear off lots of debt as the savings could be used elsewhere. Now i'm kicking myself for ever getting into this situation as we want to move to a house and we're stuck in a flat which won't sell because there's no first time buyers around. don't get me wrong there's not much wrong with the flat we just want more space.0

Hey! Oh I'm so sorry it came to that, but it's really positive that you feel back in control and will one day have a wedding that feel right for the both of you! Did you get a dress? Could always take it up to Gretna Green.....
Good move on the savings account!

Morning all,
Its pay day today - yayyyyy!
So today I am going to start an expenditure diary to see just where my money goes!
Ziggydust - yeah i did buy a dress! Think im going to sell it though
I did look at gretna green a few months ago when things first got tough but at the moment were just letting the dust settle.
I checked my online bank and my first standing order has gone into my savings - I now have £25 in savings - how exciting.
Also chucked a load of loose change in the copper jar (no idea how much is in there)
Anyway due at work in just over an hour so best sign off and get ready!

I counted our loose change a few weeks ago and had £60 to pay in to the bank plus some left over in the jar, really adds up!"I don't want to make money, I just want to be wonderful."

Thanks happy to get debt free! hope to hear from you again soon!
Well done on the coinage ziggystardust! I have no idea how much is in mine, and me and OH are determined to let it fill to the top, we have also reintroduced the £2 jar into the home
I'm pleased with myself today as I have paid the hitachi capital payment, however instead of the minimum payment of 54 pounds I paid 100! Hopefully that debt should have been gone by christmas!
I told OH today that I want to be debt free by new years day 2011 not sure at the moment how realistic that is but its a goal at least!
I'm trying to think of ways to make money from the comfort of my own home thats flexible, i work shifts and my hours go up and down each week so couldnt really commit to a second job, and i dont think im ballsie enough to do any form of party planning? I currently do online surveys but they dont pay out until you reach £40, i've been doing them months and so far have only got to £17 if anyone has any suggestions that would be great!
