Regarding the interview - funny one this, I guess I would use the opportunity to suss them out, I am sure that 30 mins will be more than enough for you to spot if they scream "incompetent bumholes" at you as soon as you enter the room:rotfl::rotfl:
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

Hi Wol - can't really comment much on the interview as there is so little detail. It might be an idea to investigate the company online and see if that throws up anything.

For a first interview of that pay grade, i would imagine it is more of a screening to make sure you are of the appropriate calibre and have the relevent or required experience/skills.

I know it's worth looking at these things, but try not to talk yourself out of the job before the interview. The interview itself should give you a good indication of what's in store for you should you progress.

    Hi All

Just the one (oh dear it's got to be rather long) post tonight as I have to get organised for the extra long day tomorrow....it was meant to be a relaxing day pottering into central London at lunchtime and thence to Wembley to see Kelly Clarkson with a friend for their birthday treat - Now however I am rushing up to Oxford for an 11am client meeting then rushing to Wembley for 3.30 (getting changed out of the business suit somwehere en route) to meet them there instead of central London

    Ho hum best laid plans.....

Some great comments and suggestions from everyone - thank you very much.:A:A:A
You have really helped me organise my thoughts on this and so now this is where I am at:

This is a first interview, the second interview is the following week. The second interview I assume will be a full interview panel with presentation topic to be prepared etc etc etc (they normally are for this type of role ;))

I have already said i will attend the first interview and, unless something very untoward happens next week, intend to pursue this all the way - it;s important to me that I get offered the job.

I know who is interviewing me and have boned up on their employment history and achievements. (it;s why I decided to accept - because they represent a good networking contact for future work so I am justifying the expense/time to myself as business development ....I'm sure Horace understands this ;):rotfl:)

I read up all about the organisation before I sent in the application and am familiar with the stuff they do, and the people/organisations they work with.I work with the same organisations too as its all part of the public/private stakeholder initiatives I have been involved in and who have been paying me dosh for the last few years (at a much better rate than these guys are currently offering)...not only that but they want people with in depth experience in one of three preferred areas (only one, because the three tend to be mutually exclusive in terms of traditional career paths) - However, being extremely untraditional ;), I actually have in depth experience and achievements to quote in all three.......which is why I know I am a rare commodity and perfect for the job. :D:D

The salary, although it sounds a lot, is below market rate for this type of position and expertise (especially when you subtract the £4k per year travelling costs into London). I would in essence be exchanging the flexible self-employed working I have now where I work on average two or three days a week for a full time commuting job (i.e. 12 hours a day) but for less money as an employee with a fixed term <1 year contract. Despite this I might still decide to accept the job if offered (provided i could negotiate a slightly more favourable package) in view of the additional CV experience and contacts I stand to gain.

However all the above is immaterial if, as Tixy,Horace and Lou (lovely turn of phrase Lou :rotfl::rotfl:) point out, my gut instinct regarding the organisations values/abilities are correct...because I think Horace put it rather eloquently - 30mins in this type of situation is taking the mick and therefore a warning sign. My biggest concern is that it might not be possible to deliver the objectives of the role as described (based on past experience working at a University in a similar type of business role which was impossible to deliver owing to the organisations working practices, stressed me to the eyeballs  and I only managed to stay there a year :o).

It's a big move for me to take the step back from being my own boss to putting my (even short-term) future back in the hands of possible (insert Lou's words here) .:rotfl: I'm only just starting to level out after hitting rock bottom over the last few weeks on the stress/emotional/counselling stuff....and I'd quite like to consolidate/build up my strength and routines now rather than throw myself back into a possible frying pan ...

Bottom line..I have spent the last two and a half years slowly and painfully climbing out of the mud..and have literally just this last week reached the point of taking those first purposeful steps towards a postive new future.....I therefore absolutely do not want to commit self-sabotage......again :o......(has been identified in psychotherapy as one of my unfortunate "traits"...going hand in hand with the self-flagellation .....and the fact that I didn;t recognise warning signs and ended up picking people and situations that were rather "bad" for me in the past :o)

Thanks once again all of you for your input today - I shall obviously keep you updated on how things progress...

And I just want you all to know that this diary and all your wonderful support has been acknowledged by my psychotherapist as a major contributing factor to my reaching the turning point this last couple of weeks.I have never before in my life received any support like this ..I am truly truly grateful.....and I am determined to throw the most massive shindig to celebrate in the summer so i can say thank you in person to you all.:A:A:A

Must go now..still got a lot to do so another late nght in the offing.......back at the weekend to catch up properly on Horace's escapades ;) , Tixy and Z's holidays and Numpty;s nadgers

About this shindig Wol. Is it going to be well signposted?
    You see, last time...

Hope you do well in the interview and get offerred the job. Perhaps indicating that they already pay you more outside of their direct employment will be enough to increase the salary as you will be at their beck and call. Then you can turn it down :D

We're not going to allow you to get into any bad situations. Not after all that work you've done to get where you are. (And here i thought it was a different type of muck to be found on Wol's threads ;)

    Now, where's Z got to?

Good luck today, Wol. The self sabotage makes me think tho - you want this job because of the CV experience and contacts. Are you planning to go back to being self employed? If so, are you planning any way you can keep in with the contacts you already have? How does this job fit into the longer career path you see for yourself?

How might this job be you sabotaging yourself? Be a devil's advocate to yourself if necessary - if it were to be a downward step in terms of money and time, its got to have a *lot* of other pluses, the rest of the package has got to be something completely exceptional.

Still tho - best of luck! I really hope you get the best thing for you!
