Wol's Riverbank tales: Part 3 Restoration

I think you've made the right decision, Wol - as to what I'd expect for the initial interview for a job offering £50k, I'm not sure, tbh, having been out of the job market for so long. But I think its a really healthy attitude, to go in examining their attitudes - a friend of mine has been getting lots of interviews and no job offers, and I wonder if its something about ignoring this aspect of things - not just about the impression you make at the interview, but thinking about the leadup to it, what it says about you, and even more importantly for you, what it says about them.
Can you ask why its a readvertisement at this sort of thing, or is that frowned on?2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

I couldn't really advice on the job interview thing ,(mine are 10 mins if you're lucky)
but the jobs you go for are different to mine:cool:
I'm 50/50 as to their intentions
Maybe going for a 30 min is really the second level,
1 st level passed when you accept the interview

I will definitely be asking the question KC if I get the opportunity - but I suspect it will have to wait until I get offered a second interview.
30 minutes won;t even cover how my skills and experience are ideal for the post (although maybe I did such a good job with my application/CV that they feel they don;t need to cover it at interview:D:D)...let alone give me a chance to ask probing questions......I've heard of speed dating but this is ridiculous :rotfl:

Hey Wol
I too can't imagine only having a 30min interview. It clearly can't be the only interview they'd expect you to attend, have they said that if you are successful at this interview it proceeds to a second interview?
Do you know what position the person interviewing you holds?
I know just what you mean about that gut instinct about the company values, but I think you are right to go. I bet within that 30mins you'll be able to tell whether it is indicative of the whole company, in which case you might know by then that you wouldn't want the job.
But I don't believe they'll know anything like enough about you after 30mins, know matter how fast you talk!Hi Tixy
How's you Hun?
I'm okay thanks, still overworked, still partly my fault due to lack of a certain two letter word (anagram of on) in my vocab.
Good news is I realise I have 5 days holiday to take before the end of March, bad news is no idea when I'll fit them in.
Mind keep wandering thinking whether I need an entirely new career to something more wholesome and rewarding. But I'm just taking the easy route right now.
Take care and good luck with the interview.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Oh thats a good question from Tixy!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Go with your gut instinct Wol..your instinct is telling you to stay away and that is what you must do. 30 mins interview for a job that potentially pays £50K (cynic that I am makes me think that it doesnt..they've just used a hook) is taking the michael and no professional person would waste half a day or even a day travelling to and from London (possibly without their travel costs reimbursed) for 30 mins. 30 mins is enough time to straight yourself, go the loo, put a bit of lippy on, say hello, listen to their spiel, shake hands and leave:eek:
Off now to catch up on the bits I have missed.0 -
Have now caught up on bits I have missed.
Nargle: I have a plan for my sh1tbag friend, if she doesnt return the earrings on Friday afternoon, I shall claim the money for them by taking her to court (need to remember my password for moneyclaim online)...I don't think that she would want another CCJ against her because I shall be claiming not the £200 I paid for them in 2003 but the current valuation of £1K (thank goodness for certificated stones and jewellery) - I cannot believe how dumb I was to lend them to her in the first place but I didnt think that she would be so lax in returning them:mad: Anyway I am not going to town tomorrow and I am not buying cake..I am off to town on Monday as I shall hit the shops on the way back from the eye hospital. She isnt going to be given the opportunity to hang around either - she can drop the earrings and go because I am telling her that I am off out.
Wol - I am using plenty of arnica and witchhazel to draw out the bruising and will make another attempt at sending fluffly towels to Ginge, Beechie & Co.
Numpty - another way to tell if your nicknacks aren't as they should be is if one feels heavier than the other0 -
Horace - good on you for your plans with your soon to be ex friend, hope your earrings turn up intact and beautiful as ever, your coccyx reverts to being intact and beautiful as ever, your bodgit job on the suitcase means it remains intact and beautiful as ever. Bet you are looking forward to your trip away, chance to relax a bit perhaps?
Wol - although I can see Horace's point re turning down the interview, part of me would be curious to see what it is all about. As Numpty said, your first hurdle is when they read your application and select you for interview. The interview is the second stage, and they will have a pretty good idea already of what to ask you. I remember applying for my present job - apparently there were over 200 applications for 8 vacancies. Only 12 were selected for interview. So I consider myself pretty darn lucky to get one of the positions. Maybe, if you decide to attend the interview, you can schedule in some other stuff to do whilst in that neck of the woods? Who knows what opportunities will arise?
PS I laughed at the thought of you being Angie's excess baggage! One life - your life - live it!0
