I've never planted spuds, so have no idea! And as for planting from seed, I don't generally do it either - much prefer the hard work to have been done for me and for me just to plant the little plants into a pot! But as the seeds will be free, I will give it a go - nothing to lose!

I have private health insurance via my work, but if I didn't have it, I wouldn't pay for it. I don't have critical illness but am lucky enough in my current job that they will pay my salary indefinitely if I was ill, so that is very good. If I ever changed job (which I hope I don't have to do) then I would have to seriously consider some sort of income protection or critical illness now that I don't have OH to help.

It's scary what you have to think about with houses, kids etc...:eek:

You have some great benefits at your work and seem a very good firm to work for.

There is no point in negative thought, it takes up time and energy which could be used in a positive, happy way!

Hypno my health insurance is via work too but I had the option of adding the family so I did so and £120 is taken out of my wage alongside tax and insurance so I am now wondering whether to cancel this and take out Critical Illness cover instead as I will have £120 'spare'

I am sure work would pay me if I was off sick for a certain amount of time (lawful amount if there is one?) but they would not pay me indefinately so I would be down to statutory sick pay which would NOT pay the bills or allow us to keep our heads above water so I am definately 'winging' it with our current lack of cover!

I am, very very lucky. It was the best decision I have made in recent years, and I truly hope that I don't have to look for another job in the future. It may be a stressful place to work, but they certainly look after their employees and their families when they need to. They are second to none.

I think I would give that serious consideration!

I never added the rest of the family as I have always been happy with the way the NHS have looked after them when needed. But if I had done, I would be thinking along the same lines as you now!

wee quicky ... the seeds from what you buy might not germinate ... they might but they might not ...
alot of the produce we buy in comes from places like africa costa rica etc so they wont germinate in our wonderful oh ever so hot and very sunny never rainy country ... but plant em anyway you never know ... maybe get the wee man to help you with the planting taxi ... kids love gardening

hey taxi good to hear your getting organised with things and taking the time to enjoy yourself ... have breakfast with the kids would be a nice way to spend some time ...and well done on sorting everything out with the insurance etc ... take your time with the other form they are designed to drive people crazy

Critical illness cover is something I don't have either, I think I took Martin's advice about it and am winging it as when I looked it was quite expensive......might be worth considering though.

I do have private health through my job, but again, wouldn't consider it otherwise. I almost cancelled it to save cash, but then did use it a couple of years ago.The appointment came through quickly, but even my GP said if she had suspected any serious, she would have sent me straight to the NHS as there is nothing better and friends who are medics say the same.

As for potatoes, I'd love to grow some. I've got a brand new dustbin that would be perfect - never thought of that! I've only got a small garden, so am limited to pots and tomatoes in bags. Might give it a whirl. Hope you're managing to relax a bit today Taxi :)
