Morning all....thanks for popping by...nice to see all my friends.

It is cold and raining here...typical..lol...so will postpone my clothes shopping trip today.

I haven't booked my hair appointment yet but fully intend to next week.

The post today brought another load of paperwork from ESA.....

I now have quite a few bits of paper to get my head around over the weekendready to be posted on tuesday.

Am going to popout in a bit and put takings in bank, pop to Matalan and to K shoe shop and to see a friend...I have no intention of doing housework today...LOL

Forgot to say I received an appointment card for the complimentary therapy dept this morning with an appointment for 17th June...

Regarding the insurance payout...I forsee NO problems with that from speaking with the lady on the phone the other day as my cancer is not DCIS (apparently that's pre cancerous cells) so seems pretty straight forward and she is keeping me informed every fortnight of the progress.

It is only a decreasing life/critica lillness/disablement policy that was took out with the mortgage so isn't worth loads and pays out on the first instance....so will need to get DH some more cover when this pays out but boy am I glad I took it out...it may well turn out to be the best money we have spent.

It willpay somewhere between £36-£38k...I think....if I've read it right.

I think the most sensible thing to do is pay off all unsecured debt....as the min payments on those are nearly £1k ...

This will then free up that money plus DHS pension and DDs board which is just over £300 p/mand any extra that I would normally overpay to them...

This will mean that DH doesn't have to work as hard.

I need to leave them in the best possible position if anything happens to me......

I will leave the rest in the mortgage pot....so that it is available for them if needed and if I'm going to live a long time then I can carry on overpaying the mortgage and that is as far as I can think at the moment.

I know wanted to be debt free but this is not the way I imagined doing it...

I really really don't want DH running himself into the ground but he is insistant on doing these extra hours....He's agreed just to do during the week extra hours at the moment..so that's a start.

Guess I better get dressed if I'm going out..lol

Have a good day everyone x

Taxi, I think that once the critical illness policy actually pays out and you start treatment, then DH will slow down....I'm sure it's a man thing of keeping busy and not thinking about it.

I was thinking the same Whatatwit...I think he sees it that it's his way of helping me by me not worrying about paying the bills but instead I worry about him running himself into the ground.I'm quite happy for him to just work his normal hours.
Even if I didn't have critical illness insurance and I didn't have enough to pay the bills ...then I would make sure the mortgage was paid and sod the rest....they are not worth stressing about.

I am just trying to get rid of any stress before my op so that I can concentrate on getting better after it IYSWIM.

HI taxi, you sound so sorted, I really admire you. Illness insurance is not the way we would want to get debt-free but if it does, well what a bonus. I hope that once your treatment is over, you and your OH can relax and enjoy life. I also think I will take out critical illness cover myself, I have always refused it til now but I see that was stupid.

Hope you enjoy your (rainy) weekend. I've got a hectic one as visitors staying and my DS's 9th birthday tomorrow.

That's the plan Seaxwyn....I'm going to enjoy life now and hopefully for a very long time after treatment.

Think taking critical illness cover is as important as life cover as your whole world is thrown in turmoil when something like this happens...the company I'm with have a decent reputation from what I've seen on cancer forums...Norwich union/aviva....

    Happy birthday to Ds x

    Morning

Weather here typical BH wet and cold!!

Glad the CI cover was sorted so quick, as you say, its good to have some stress removed. DLA, from my experience, will eventually pay but sadly not as efficiently! Another bummer of being self employed, any means tested benefit is difficult, at least DLA isn't.

Hope you have a relaxing day xx

    Challenge = Debt at 31/01/12 = £25k. 2011 Payments = £1,944.19/£24,403.84

There is no point in negative thought, it takes up time and energy which could be used in a positive, happy way!

So pleased that the critical insurance is going to take the pressure off you for the long term as you do push yourself very hard. And of course you are going to have a long life to enjoy it with your DH. Let him work hard now if he wants it is his way of helping because its hard for family and friends to now what they can do for you.

He wont be able to do the extra hours when you are having treatment because he knows you will need him then so it will only be for a short while.

Stll waiting for my play date :rotfl:

  • It's an incredibly humbling and beautiful experience to accept the assistance of others with simple gratitude. People want to help and you get to know people that you thought you knew, even better.... even family :D

This is so for any period of need, whether it be the time after childbirth or dealing with illness. However, sometimes I think we can be too proud. By keeping it simple you can tell those around you when you want to take back the reins, but in the meantime accept the help with the love in which it is given. Removes stress and leaves space for laughter.
