Neighbour using my parking space

  • We had a problem with parking where we live

A neighbour had a caravan in our space and were not interested in moving it. After looking at the deeds we found that the space was freehold to the house and not just assigned as the neighbours had stated, And the there was a restrictive covenant in place regarding the storage of a caravan. We contacted the local council who at first just said it was a civil matter. After much chasing we got a helpful response from the planning enforcement officer who said that we should hand them a request to move it within 3 days or it would be removed for them. The police also agreed with this. The said so long as they had 48 hours notice we were in our rights to have it removed and bill for costs. They also then advised us to place a bollard in the space. The enforcement officer also said if we didn't fancy doing any of that they would right to them and if it wasnt moved within 7 days they would have it removed.

  • have you tried putting a sign up saying something like 'keep to designated spaces only - violaters will be towed, etc - or maybe get a lump of concrete with reserved for xxxx painted on it, left in your space..

  • They have a week left,

They sent us a letter rambling about the parking situation, Pleading to keep the van where it is. All i said was that no matter what they said they were breaking planning regs so it still had to go.

  • I live in an apartment block split into 2 sections of 6 apartments. Each apartment "owns" 1 specified parking space. There are 2 visitor parking spots.

The Management company are ineffective in managing the issue. I pay the damned mortgage on a spot I can never use  and I am having to hold myself back from smashing their car up as I am beyong fuming!!

I don't know which apartment the offender lives in and they do not respond to notes on the car.

I've googled for an answer and got nothing :(

I've had criminal damage on my car 3 times in the last 12 months, so parking on the street is not exactly something I want to do - one of the reasons I bought this apartment was for the parking.

I also have a small child who is sometimes forced to get out of the car into traffic - not good!!!!

Trolley jack under the rear of the car works wonders, jack it up and take it for a walk :)

These parking problems always start innocently and very quickly the offender thinks they have the right to park there.
Given em an inch and they'll take the p1ss.

I'd get over to the "Parking Forum," they'd love you over there. :D As they seem to think that anyone who has a free parking space is fair game.

Have you considered clamping? Put up a nice big sign, with very large letters, letting anyone who parks there know that they will be clamped, if they take your space. You don't have to charge them a release fee, but the inconvenience alone should be enough to deter.
