Virgin Media: Haggle down your costs.

My daughter has been with Virgin for around 3 years. She has had telephone and broadband since the beginning and never changed these services. The only thing she has done is haggle for a cheaper price (like lots of us do) everytime Virgin starts charging the full rate. She is now having to move house and on trying to cancel her connection with 30 days notice has been told she will be charged £90 for the remainer of her contract. She did not know she was on a new contract but Virgin told her that the last time she asked for a cheaper rate it automatically started a new 12 month contract although she never changed any of her services. I do not know if any other customers have experienced this but beware when you haggle for a cheaper price you could be starting a new 12 month contract. If anyone has any idea how she may have this charge waivered it would be greatly appreciated.0

Seen a couple of comments regarding not being able to haggle a better deal with Virgin. I tried a couple of days back and couldn't get anywhere with them even when threatening with Sky.
Thought I'd check back here to see what the best tips were as perhaps I'm just a bad haggler. Looks like I'm off to the Sky website now to check out what they can do.
I just ditched virgin mobile as they refused to match a competitors price despite me being with them for donkey's years - over a decade at least with two phones...0 -
I keep ringing to see if I can get any cheaper, but with no luck. They say I'm on one of the best retention deals...
XL TV with V+ box
XL Talk Unlimited
M Broadband
e-billing
...all for £34.95/month.
Is anyone on exactly the same, paying any less? And any ideas on how we could get a free wireless router off them...?!0 -
We had a broadband and home phone package and the additional discount ran out 2 months ago, but Virgin have only got around to adjusting it on this month's bill. I rang to complain about this and to say we were thinking of switching to Tiscali who are now cheaper. However their customer services insisted they could not give existing customers a better deal and that the current offer shown on their website is for new customers only.
They also said despite our contract expiring we have to give 30 days notice of cancellation.
Demi Dee, are you a new customer? If not, can you give any tips please? I was of course polite to the customer service people I spoke to.0 -

The only upgrade I'm aware of is BB L customers who were getting 4mb should now be getting 10MB. BB M is still 2MB0

Same as above except I have a second box - £37.
Actually, co-incidentally, just moved to Sky (and o2 for b/band) today for about the sme price but £50 cashback too!
...a change is as good as a rest....or is it!!!0 -
Taken from another psot....
We've been with VM for about 8 years now but recently moved so we had to start up a new contract.
We currently pay for the following for £20.49:- Broadband M (2MB)
- Telephone M (Unlimited landline 24/7)
- Talk Int and Talk Mobile (which apparently come free with the package)
- Basic Cable channels
Speaking to VM, the reason we get £40 bills looks like it's from 084* numbers most to the doctors surgery (£10 ish!) oh and the very occasional 0870 number.
I'm looking for a phone number for our surgery that comes at local rate (no luck) and I'm educating the family on saynoto0870 but is there any other quick fixes or long term solutions that could help?
QUICK NOTE:
I've just had a look at http://allyours.virginmedia.com/html...onemobile.html and Talk Mobile& Int is charged at £1.50 eeach, do you think it could actually be part of our package for free?
Thank you for your assistance0
