Virgin Media: Haggle down your costs.

  • A double negative for me today:
    retentions couldn't cut me a deal as I was already pared to the bone;
    apparently I haven't been paying for my broadband (something they'll rectify on my next bill!)

    Still, nice to know that I haven't been paying BB and they're not going to pursue me for the amount I should have payed.
    ...and then the window licker said to me...
  • I was paying £25 for BB (10MB) £13.50 line rental which included Itemised billing and mobile phone fee. Told Virgin about the offers out there and got the lot for £28.49 a month and now includes 24/7 free calls to all landlines.

    Have to remain with them for 12 months though. Not a bad deal I thought. This will save me £20 to £30 a month
  • can u haggle down the costs and not be roped in for another 12 months?

    Many deals now are with 12 month tie in, some others are without tie in, though usually only short term offers and not 'for life' offers.
    It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

  • We were thinking about reducing what we have with virgin thus reducing our costs, but I dont want to be tied in for another 12 months. All we need is the broadband but I gather u have to get a phone line with them anyway? So we would have to keep that and just get rid of the tv package.

    Are you cable Virgin Media or ADSL (Virgin.net) ?

    If cable you don't need a landline, it comes via co-ax and not phone line.

    VM will do 2Mbit broadband only for £10 (with eBilling). You could always use VoIP as relying on mobiles is always expensive for you and the person calling you, it's amazing how much money people will spend on mobiles, yet don't want to spend a tine fraction of that on a much cheaper service.

    (I was VoIP only for over 2.5 years). Only have landline now due to offer.

    Do you have a box on the wall where a cable that looks like an aerial cable connects to a modem, or do you have to have broadband filters/splitters connected to a BT landline?
