Hi wonder if you guys could help ?

I'm with virgin & have free evening & weekend calls to landline nos only. I have to pay for 0845, 0870 & mobiles. 0800 calls are free.

I want to use an override provider & will only be making UK calls (mobiles, 0845, UK landlines etc), and NO overseas calls. I'm hoping that ill be able to call the non-prefix number that you have to use with virgin (ie 0880 number for 18185), for free under my talkplan!

My main question is - can you tell me if there is one stand out override provider that is best when you take out the overseas calling calculation?

    Thanks!!

    Steve

http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php is probaly your best bet.:D Using their 0808 Freephone Access Number which is definitely free on Virgin Media Cable Phone service

If you make a few Mobile Calls at Evening and Weekends it might be worth adding the VM Call Mobile package £1.50p a month.

Was on Broadband XL and Phone M for £32 a month (which was a good deal a year ago)

Rang and acted dumb, mention the magic word SKY. Let them convince me that Sky was slower (which I knew before I called). Said Sky was offering Basic TV, Telephone and Broadband (said they were offering 8mb for the price of 2mb) for £26.50.

Was looking for something a bit cheaper and preferably with TV and Sky 1. There M TV is just freeview so played on the fact that £26.50 was cheaper, I could live with 2mb real speed and wanted Sky1.

It took a while (she wasn't hard selling it to me like I wanted!), but eventually she got around to offering me 10mb broadband (as much as I need really), Phone and M+ TV (has 20 extra channels including Sky 1-3, Bravo etc) for £25.50 (£30.50 on website)

Not deal of the century, but I was happy to pay a fiver less, get some half decent TV and still have a half decent bradband speed:beer:

£25 would have only got me 10mb broadband and Phone on their website, which I was willing to pay anyway

Is this the free evening calls we are talking about as I thought that was just 01, 02, 03 starting numbers?

As far as I understand it 080 calls are free with virgin, irrespective of which phone package you are on.;)

Ok cheers utilitybroker, but re the mobile calls, wouldn't it just be cheaper for me to use 18185 for mobiles at evenings & weekends rather than virgin, even after taking into consideration the 25% discount with the VM call mobile package?

I am not sure what you are on about.

I was telling saloliver a proven fact that the 18185 0808 Freephone Number was free to call from Virgin Media Cable.

I make that point because VM here on their site http://allyours.virginmedia.com/websales/product.do?id=3001
dont make it clear that 0500/0808 freephone calls are free as well as 0800.

Sorry i meant to say weekday evenings. At weekday peak and weekends 18185 is cheaper.

18185 calls to mobiles. 4p connection,

UK mobiles (weekdays) (No Evening Rate)10p a minute all the time.

    VM Call mobile. 8.8p connection

UK mobiles 7.5p a minute evenings.

    Hi all

I'm currently on the VIP package and have been for a couple of years, i currently pay £102 a month for the following:

    XL TV
    XL BB
    XL Phone
    Talk Unlimited
    Talk Mobile
    Talk International
    Sky Sports and Movies
    2 V+ boxes
    1 standard virgin box

Is it worth me giving them a ring and haggling it down a bit. I hear stories of people getting the VIP package for a lot less so am tempted to give it a go.

    What do you think?

I just got after about 30 mins conversation and haggling with a great CS rep called Jamie in retentions:

    L BB
    L Phone
XL TV with free V+ HD box installed and setup
    Line Rental

    = £31.50 pm

Also offered one months FREE line rental or one months FREE sky movies subscription - went for line rental as member of love film anyway.

The magic word I was told was when I said 'Sky' were offering :O)
Not bad at all I think?
This is exactly what I have now and I think I'm around £38 for this. Will see if I can get it down to 31.50 as well later today.
I assume it works better to quote a Sky deal than to say "this is what a 'friend' of mine is paying"?

This Sky deal you can find by creating your own package on their website by the way, by going for Sky TV with Sky+ box, Sky Talk and Sky Broadband Everyday, which altogether is 31.50. This doesn't include HD in theory but then again I've already paid Virgin for my HD box by way of a one-off cost.

I've just got off the phone to Virgin and have got the following for £34 a month:

    M Phone
    L BB
    XL TV
    Free V+ Box and installation

I was previously on a reduced rate of £38, so was glad to get this down more, and the free V+ is an added bonus, almost didn't get that as was being a bit of a chicken on the phone, but then decided to say that I was wanting SKY +, becuase Virgin ON Demand kept playing up - it worked - YAY!!
