Has anyone seen the new Sky offer. If you are on Sky tv they are offering "Sky Talk" for £5.00 per month unlimited landline geographical number calls. I have not seen this beaten anywhere. The only drawback is, you have to have a BT line. I have NTL phone & Sky TV and am paying £25.00 per month for NTL 4Mb broadband and phone line rental of £10 line rental + £15.50 for unlimited landline geographical calls. A total of £50.50. If I change to 16Mb Sky Broadband and have a BT line I will pay £10.00 per month for broadband and £5.00 per month for Sky Talk, £11.00 per month for the BT line (only £1.00 more than NTL) that's a saving of £24.50 per month! That, as far as I know, is one of the best deals going.

Don't go anywhere near AOL. If you have probs. you will never get rid of it! Try the new Sky package. I have looked at it from every angle I can think of, made a few calls to Sky, BT & NTL and there does not seem to be any catch. It is not a limited time offer, there appear to be no restrictions and if you go for the 16Mb package at £10.00 per month they will send an engineer to install and set it all up for you completely free. The modem is free to. there's no rental on that either. If you are going to have a BT line anyway, go for "Sky Talk" with the broadband offer that's got to be the cheapest way for both internet and phone. If you don't want the broadband you can still get the Sky Talk package anyway for £5.00 per month. The broadband at £10 per month ihas got to be just as cheap as dial up as I'm sure you are probably spending that much already or something near it. It becomes available some time in early august so the timing is probably about right for you anyway.

i found tesco interphone good for receiving free internet calls when I was abroad, plug in my laptop and pick up calls or voice mail and people can call me using inclusive minutes. I use https://www.internetcalls.com for outgoing calls, this is completely free too

18185 and 1899 have just announced that they are charging calls by the minute from 20th July and I suppose the sister company 18866 is following suit.

Anyone know what the best alternative top up provider is now? Or have they all cottoned on to the cheap calls we have been making !

    Dont Panic.:D
  • I cannot advise strongly enough DO NOT go with Talk Talk!! If you have a problem you have to go through their general enquiry number; and you will have problems!!This number is always busy believe me. If you don't resolve the problem thay don't try and contact you ....they just cut off your landline; if you can live with this then continue....if that action scares you then avoid TalkTalk at all costs!!

Talk Talk "Customer Service" - Don't hold your breath!

They may be cheap, but in my recent experience, the tradeoff is in a complete lack of customer service.

They didn't get my order right the first time, the second time OR the third time. E-mails to their customer services have gone unanswered - I am still awaiting a response to my initial complaint of 15th June!

Once you DO get someone, the ONLY excuse they come up with is that they have been very busy. Does that excuse them for failing to get it right on a total of three occasions???

I have today cancelled my Talk Talk account, even though I have to pay a cancellation fee as I am told that I am outwith the cooling off period of 14 days (even though I was told yesterday that I was well within it).

Sometimes it's not just about saving money - it's about service and value for money and with Talk Talk, there is neither...

I am so glad I am not the only one with severe problems with Talk Talk;I would advise anyone to NOT even touch Talk Talk as a company. I have been overcahrged and instead of trying to resolve the issue; despite numerous calls and e mails from me(to which they have taken a month to reply to!) they have just cut off my landline; so i've no internet either!! How can I sort it now??

I had the same problem, I think it's because it is in such high demand they are swamped with people to change over, they got my order wrong the first two times and only found out when we got the first bill that they had signed me up for talk3 and not Talk 3 international and I was paying for calls to Oz, it was only when I rang to cancel did I get a new freephone number to call that put me though to a UK based call centre and not one somewhere in India. (08000490049 then option 1 for talk talk and broadband enquires)

The only problem I had (I can't blame Talk Talk for this) was they switched over broadband when we where having a lightning storm so we lost broadband and it took a time to work out if the storm was the reason for not being able to log on due to a fried router/modem or if we had been switched it was in fact both. My modem had been fried and we had been switched over.

The switch over was a week ago and still no new modem from Talk Talk although this is not needed as I had to buy a new network router/modem. As I have to link other computers around the house.
I wonder how many people have this wait to get their free modems and filters before being able to log on.

The switch over was done on the same day and was done two weeks before the due date, so very happy here.

In all despite the early hic-ups the change over was very smooth. Now all I have to do is change all my prefix dial numbers and take out the override numbers.

And yes already we are saving money. That's more money in the MMR piggy. and more money in my pocket.

UPDATE 4-9-06: The modem finally got here three weeks after switch over.

Ps I spotted MMR is back on at 3pm Sat ITV 2.
