told my dad about talktalk as i'd read it on here, so he called up to order package (broadband and phone)for his new house and they were confirming the details on the phone, she said thats fine, that will be set up for you by the 27th. then she went on to ramble about some other stuff. 27th my dad repeated as he thought wow a week thats quick, then the advisor on phone said 27th of august. she'd failed to mention the month the 1st time cause she knew my dad would said no. wud any1 wait 3months to be set up for b/band-no! anyways he told the advisor he wasnt interested anymore, and she said nothing i can do i'm only in sales dept and the sale has been completed, if u want to cancel will have to call....and she gave him the number, took 3days of calling and being on hold for ages before they finally cancelled his order. he got b/band with wanadoo the other day, got starter kit in maplin for £4.99, cause wanadoo been taken over by orange and the starter kit had old wanadoo packaging they giving it away cheap, so hes got that took 5 days to get set up, my message to others is just beware of advisors on fone from talktalk, get them to confirm exact date u'll be set up by (including the month!)0

britters wrote:Thanks for the info. I did find one that was cheaper at 2ppm, and that was 'PhoneCheap', but only to landlines. The cheapest to mobiles (at 6ppm) is 'Cheapest Calls'. I've yet to find out what BT and my mobile provider charge for calls to the access numbers, and that could be a killer.
I have used the Phonecheap 0844 number to call a UK Mobile, quite OK. The rate quoted in their message was 3p/minute (on a Saturday). Can anybody tell me if this is the rate which should appear on my Bill regardless of which Call Provider I am using at the time ?0 -
Welcome to the MSE forums KenBig.
No. Unfortunately, the prices quoted in the MSE UK Callchecker are only what someone using a BT residential landline would be charged. Other providers can charge different prices (and mobile networks charge considerably more).Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I have signed up for TalkTalk3 International with Free Broadband. My telephone start date is 22 May and my expected Broadband start is 1 August.
Last night I had a look at the Tarrif list, all 8 pages of them. On the first page, at the bottom, I noticed, in very small letters, a statemnt to the effect that any call not in the Call Plan of my package would be subject to a 5p minimum charge. I telephoned Customer Services to clarify what was outside my Call Package and not listed in the Call Tariff list and was a little surprised to hear the representative hsay that Non-Geographical and Mobile Calls were not in my Package. Did anyone else feel the need to make a similar enquiry or am I wrong in assuming that Calls listed in the Tariff List would be in my Package, if listed there.0 -

Following your response I today telephoned TalkTalk to seek their charge rate for 0844 prefix calls. The representative I spoke to stated that the rate for these calls was set by the call receiver and not the call provider. Presumably this means the 3p per minute stated by Phone Cheap when I made my UK Mobile Call is what I should expect to be charged by TalkTalk? (5p. minimum charge)0 -

Further to my Post I telephoned TalkTalk again to try and clarify when the 5p minimum charge would apply on my TalkTalk3 International Plan.
The representative told me that effectively, with the exception of free calls which go over the 70 mins. all chargeable calls would be subject to this minimum charge.0 -
Are home phone/broadband users living in the Hull/E.Yorks obliged to accept KC's expensive tariffs or are there viable alternatives ? Warner0

Having read almost everything on this site regarding Override codes I confess I am confused.
Having applied for Talk3 International + Broadband, my telephone is stated as being effective from today and my Broadband expected 1 August.
Can someone please clarify, when does 'Unbundling' take place ? Is it from today, thus preventing the Overrides such as 1899 or 18185 being useable, or does it only happen when the Broadband is connected ?, which means I could continue using the Overrides if the circumstances justify doing so until that time.
I would very much appreciate clarification.0 -
I've been looking here for a mention of the new phone and broadband package from PlusNet. You can see all the details here.
In brief, it costs £11 per month on top of your broadband fees (from £14.99) and you get 240 minutes free, and save roughly 17% on call compared to BT.
What do we think? Perhaps we could confine the comments to the value of the phone package, rather than get into a "I think PlusNet are a rubbish ISP compared to..." discussion.0 -
I am about to transfer to talk3 international and I will pay £20.99 per month
I currently use 18185 for calls to mobiles in Holland/UK and daytime local/nat calls
BUT from June 02 I have been told, by talktalk today, that I WILL be able to use 18185 to override their service.(I think they charge 20ppm to a dutch mobile, rather than 2p with 18185!)
Does anyone know whether I should trust this answer?
If they put their equipment into the exchange could they stop it being overridden?
18 months is a long contract and I want to be sure before swapping over!:j:j:j0
