I had a long discussion this evening with AOL who are preparing a response to the TalkTalk offer which will be emailed to UK subscribers on their billing date within the next month.

Basically, it's a combination of continued AOL UNLIMITED broadband (Talk Talk have a 40 GB monthly download cap and then very high charges for anything more) and calls to landlines for a total of £17.99 a month.

You'd have to pay BT your continuing £11 + VAT a month, but because AOL is registered outside the UK, you don't pay VAT on their element.

Martin, please pitch in here - this seems to me a very good deal, and possibly better value than TalkTalk, at least for heavy internet users.

    cheers

AOL need to do something they are losing customers at a very fast rate.
    See : http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/05/04/aol_financials/

What speed will their £17.99 offer be? Tiscali are offering 2mb with unlimited 01/02 calls for £19.99p

Or 1mb with Free Weekend calls for £12.99p.
  • i keep getting my postcode and telephone number doesnt match, when it does. And then when I try to email them about it there is no email address for them? Anyone got any ideas?

I think Talk Talk sounds very cheap considering i am currently with Tesco £17.97 and BT £12 (or sommat) + calls to 18185 and 1899.

Does anyone know (i have looked on the threads but cant see if anyone has confirmed this question), but can you still use the 18185 and 1899 on TT Int Package with free broadband.

Many thanks to anyone who can answer my questions x

This would be a good deal for me, but I simply couldn't get AOL braodband to connect. Spent hours on phone to their helpline and in the end had to return package.

Having read the messages on here I decided to take the bull by the horns and compared BT packages with my NTL standard 123. I pay £10.50/month line rental and £17.99 for broadband 1MB/month.I called them and spoke to a customer retention guy who after initially telling me that he couldn't budge I then asked him what the drill was for disconnecting and he then offered me £9.99 for 6months broadband. I still wasn't convinced and still said BT could do better, he then reduced my line rental to £5.25 for 3 months, saving me £13.25 for 3 months at least. Thanks Martin!
  • As a result of the forum I gave Telewest notice of quitting telephone, broadband and cable TV last week to go to BT and Sky £150 box top Tv set, thaen to move on to Talk Talk. Yesterday I was given the offer by Telewest of 6 months at £20.99 for telephone with free calls and Broadband, and a reduction in my TV package from £25 to £15.99. This deal to be reviewed in 6 months by which time I get the impression that they hope Talk Talk will have gone away.

Or... perhaps they hope you will have lost the urge to change?
  • I'ld like to thank all here for helping to cut my home bill. I've been trying to cut my business bill, which is BT based. I can't use 0844 services for this because the bulk of my bill comes from redirecting calls from the office phone to mobiles when the office is empty. These amount to a large quantity of short calls to my mobiles.

I can't find out who is the best secondary provider, I would deeply appreciate any advice as my phone bill is really silly.

    Thanks

What network are you diverting calls to from your BT Business Phone Line.?
Is this done mostly at peak times?
    PF.
  • Hello,

The phone is put on divert when everyone is out on jobs, this happens much more at night when staff levels are low. The staff are on different networks, so the calls are diverted to all the major mobile networks, because the person who leaves the office last is the one who fields the calls. The calls are customer bookings, so they tend to be under a minute, seldom more than two minutes. This is where I get hit because of the high initial cost of connecting a call to a mobile from a landline.

    thanks
