Does anyone have any views about second hand matresses? I know the general advice is not to use them but I got one with my cot on ebay that was only used for a few months and looks new. Considering it cost £80 to buy new (from Mothercare) it seems such a shame to waste. Was thinking maybe I could just wipe it down with Milton or something (one side is wipe clean). Any advice?

I've been looking at bumgenius but they are pricey.
My friend used these for her wee boy and rated them so I have got 10 to try (managed to get them for about £10 each due to a price reduction and taking out a mothercare card for introductory offer etc). I think she used diposables overnight and in the first month or so whilst getting used to having a baby to look after and this is also my plan. Still need to work out the ins and outs for washing them etc, but as they are microfibre apparently they are better for use if you don't have a tumble dryer (I seem to remember reading that it is better not to tumble dry them - luckily as we don't have one!).
Even if we don't get on with them, I have seen used ones going for £10 on ebay and that wasn't the end of the auction!0 -

I have some second hand moses matresses and they look ok, but you only have a strangers word for the time it was used etc. I was offered the matress with the cot I got off ebay and turned them down. To a certain extent it does seem like a waste not re-using them, but I thought that as I saved tonnes getting the main bits second hand/borrowed that I would get new matresses and in the end got them off ebay - cotbed matress for £30 when is £100 in Tesco and moses basket one for £6 when £30 in Mothercare, so you don't have to pay full price for them anyway. If something happened I would worry it was my fault for not getting them new IYSWIM, but I am sure that babies have slept on second hand matresses before and been absolutely fine and it is just we are more paranoid these days about everything!0 -

Jenny i am of the opinion that you should do what you feels best and try not to take too much notice of the warnings.
If it looks clean, give it a hoover to get any dust out, and wipe the other side, you'll be using clean sheets. I didn't get a new mattress for Ds cos i knew it was immaculate and my friend had used a mattress protector, plus a section of it was removable for washing, other side wipe clean.0 -

Can i ask is anyone on here suffering with depression? I am starting to find it very hard now as i seem to be going around in circles - severe boob pain followed by bump pain followed by kicks, followed by tiredness then the depression is very bad - start to feel a bit better and back to the start.
I am not moaning, believe me i am delighted to have a chance to have a baby. I just wondered how others have approached this as it looks like things will get tougher as the pregnancy progresses?
I havent had medication for over 6 years but i am beginning to wonder if i should look into this as it is effecting my ability to care for myself / keep house clean etc and hubby is a bit strained working and coping with me in pain / depressed / tired. I have no family or friends support network or anything due to age, illness location etc.0 -
