They should tell you yeah
Its more accurate the further along you are i think.
When i had my early scan i thought i was 8weeks exactly, but i was only 6+4 (therefore stealing 9 days)
But if im further along then i thought still then woohoo!
Yay for pics! I googled "12 week scan pics" so i can know what to look for lol.
Im going with a full-ish bladder and they can tell me to empty it that way if they need me to. Anything to avoid the evil scanner that gets shoved up your foof :rotfl:

morning all!!
finally got my little cardigan finished yesterday. i'm very proud of myself. have started another one as well, but smaller size in white. i cant wait for baby to arrive so they can wear them.
felling a lot lot more positive today. hubby had a drink too many last night and got upset. he's worried something is going to happen me (worst case scenario) and i tried to reassure him as best i could.
need to do a bit of investigating now on epidurals. has anyone on here had an epidural that could possibly tell me what it was like???'Children are not things to be moulded, but are people to be unfolded'0 -
EA I think the scans are most accurate for dating between 8 and 12 weeks, as the baby is big enough to get an accurate measurement, and they all grow at pretty much the same rate up to 12 weeks. After that growth can vary slightly so not quite as accurate.
I had my first scan with the d!ldo scanner as she couldn't see anything through my tummy. It wasn't the nicest thing I've ever had done to me but it wasn't painful or even really uncomfortable. I'm pretty sure that by 12 weeks they should be able to get a good enough picture through your tummy.
Today I am at work. It's boring and I am just counting down til the wedding now! Got 2 days off next week cos of bank hol, then only in mon and tues the week after so just 6 more days after today!!
A friend is leaving tomorrow so we are going to the all you can eat Chinese buffet place over the road at lunch today, about 15 of us I think! It'll be nice but I'll probably need a nap this afternoon!!0 -
Jillie i asked for an epidural with my first as i was in labor for 72hrs. unfortunately the midwives kept changing and by the time the anethtist came down he tried to do one but couldnt bubs was coming out like it or not. So my advise is to ask early if you want one as you have to get into a fetal position and stay totally still whilst the needle is inserted and it is awfull with big strong contractions coming. As for the epidural itself i cant help never actually got it :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Hi kindof and EA, for my 12 week scan I was told my bladder was too full and told to go to loo and empty it.It was fine-they could see everything they needed to and got all the measurements (and that's with a uterus that apparently tilts backwards lol) so I wouldn't worry about the 'dildo' scanner being used
not sure if they'd be able to get the right angle to take all the measurements etc needed with it by 12 weeks anyway so you should be safe

Hi Jillie i had an epidural with DS. I got it at about 7.30am. Had to sit on the bed whilst they put it into middle of my back, round about whre your bra strap is i would say. OH said it was a big needle, but to be honest dont remember, i was just so relieved to get it. I was not mobile with it, and could top it up with a button when needed. It was absolute bliss when it kicked in. (But i am a wimp). Midwives kept checking to see if i needed a wee, and they wee'd for me - No dignity involved whatsoever.
Whilst it worked it was fantastic, but at around 2pm it decided to stop working on the left hand side. They then topped me up and it all went wrong from there - babies heartbeat dropped and was wipped out for an emergency section, but this was also down to my "failure to progress" also.
That said, if i was having a VBAC I would probably have one again. (Have I said i'm a wimp?). Sorry to all the first timers, but labour hurts, contractions hurt, it is not a nice pain, yes the end result is fantastic, and so worth it, but after i spent 3 hours rocking and throwing up from the pain, i thanked god for the epidural. Also i am a redhead and have had it said many times, by different health care professionals that redheads have a very low pain threshold and can bleed more . Sounds like a good excuse to me and i use it. :rotfl::rotfl:
Jillie, put it on your birth plan, that you would like one, but only go for it if you think you really need it, i never even tried the gas and air, just went for the hard drug straight away i'm that soft.
I don't think it did DS any harm. MY BF had pethadine with her first and she wreckons her DS was out of it for a good few days because of it.
Each to their own i say. But i'm definately in the cowards corner......0 -
Not really relevent, but im going to have some scrambled egg on toast

It was fine at 1st and i was bending and steching to show him how it did not hurt then about an hour later we were out in the car going to see the xams lights and the pain kicked in, Luckly we were not far from home, the hosptial were really good even pulling oh leg about it the doctor coming in pointing his finger saying did u do this !!! My family also took the pi** out of him and i did get extra presents which was good because i could hardly bend and felt even worse when my nan would not let me lift a thing at shopping and some old man had a go at me for letting my nan do it !!!!!Good luck to everyone with scans today xxxDarling son born 10/12/09 hopefully the 1st of many :j0
