The break, as domestic appliances sometimes do.

And when they do you need to get a man in to fix it.

You may read here that everything you buy has a 700 year warrenty, but in reality if you buy a cooker, and a few years down the line there's something wrong with it, you need to pay and get it fixed.

Thats fine and dandy Broker dave .

However the month after they replaced my oven ikea but 5 year guarentees on the same model.

The average lifespan of a oven without it getting a fault is 10 - 15 years.

I dont expect a relacement , just what I am entitled to and that is a free repair.

I they choose to replace then so be it .

Isn't that what the forum is about . Consumer rights . If consumer direct say I have rights i will exercise them

The average lifespan of an oven may well be 15years.

But to expect one to never need any repairs over the 15 years is delusional.

    HTH.

I wouldnt expect never to have a repair , but to get the same repair on two diffent ovens isnt deliusional down to manufacturer incompetance

But the oven did work? for 2 years. If it had broken immediately then fair enough.

If they do issue a refund the Op can go and buy a 2 year old oven that works with the monies received. Problem solved. The OP will receive damages to the value of a 2 year old oven. i.e what the OP's was worth (2 years old) when it failed to work.

Yeah but that doesn't stack up with the rationale of contractual damages. The OP would be entitled to the cost of rectification - i.e. the same (or equivalent) oven.
