Carbohydrates definitely do not suppress appetite whereas fat consumption is quite self-limiting0

A couple of points you have made, ab, are a bit puzzling:
1. Fact. there are no essential carbs.
2. what it can are stored as glycogen but only a few minutes worth.
1. The first of these is a very dangerous message to be propagating for a few reasons but, most importantly, when you stop eating carbohydrates the brain stops regulating serotonin levels, a chemical that elevates mood and suppresses appetite. ONLY carbohydrate consumption naturally stimulates production of serotonin.
Serotonin is crucial not only to control your appetite and stop you from overeating; it's essential to keep your moods regulated. Women have much less serotonin in their brains than men, so a serotonin-depleting diet will make women especially feel irritable.
Eating a lot of fat will make you an emotional zombie.
When you take away carbohydrates, it's like taking away water from someone hiking in the desert. If fat is the only alternative for a no- or low-carb dieter to consume to satiate the cravings, it's like giving a beer to the parched hiker to relieve the thirst - temporary relief, but ultimately not effective.
So you may be of the opinion that carbs arent essential but that only holds true if you have a desire to be a non-funtioning human being....ie huge and very moody!
2. Carbohydrates are indeed stored as glycogen but 'only a few minutes worth'? An average adult human will store approx 2,000 calories in glycogen....enough to run a marathon on. If you can run a marathon in 'a few minutes' I'd like to be your agent.:p

Why am I hungry soon after an 800 calorie high carb meal, when I am not hungry after a 450 calorie high protein meal? And, if I've already got 2000 calories knocking around in my glycogen stores, but have to keep replenishing them with a high carb diet, am I not wasting my time, as I will never build up a big enough deficit to make a difference?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0

No they dont - serotonin does, the production of which is triggered by carbohydrate consumption.
It is starchy carbohydrates in particular, eg potatoes, rice, pasta, consumed in the absence of large volumes of fat which will be most effective in this regard.Gt NW 1/2 Marathon 21/2/2010 (Target=1:22:59) (6:20/mile) 1:22:47 (6:19):j:j

hmm interesting
So if serotonin controls your appetite, you could argue that those suffering from depression, who'd minds/body's don't produce enough serotonin would likely eat more due to not having the serotonin to regulate their appetite? High sugar diets (carbohydrate) are actually used sometimes as part of brainwashing especially by cults.
some years ag advice came out of America that a good diet was 60% carbs 30% protein and 10% fat. However if memory serves me right the sponsors of the research were kellogs who of course sell heavily laden and refined carb products. Any coincidence?
the problem with carbs today is not so much the carbs but the fact that they are so refined and really like putting rocket fuel in a steam engine.
man should go back to eating what he was evolved to eat ie fish foul meat roots leaves and grains plus seasonal fruit.Who I am is not important. What I do is.0 -

OMG is that true??? I'm off to Ann Summers right now!
Totally agree with you on the refined carbs btw, although I think I might give the foul meat a miss :rotfl:Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs
