Thanks for all the replies on the glasses issue. Do have horrible memories of wearing huge windscreen-style plastic monstrosities as a teenager (and whipping them off in between classes only to find huge red welts on my nose - they were soooo heavy!) and possibly have a psychological 'block' on how I really look in them. Am a bit of a geek anyway so 'geek chic' is not a million miles away, lol. Perhaps growing my hair a bit would help?

Khaki strappy vest top (La Redoute)
Pink lurex short-sleeve jumper with very deep V-neck (La Redoute)
Black self-stripe dancer skirt (as yesterday, La Redoute)
    Purple tights (Ethel Austin)
Black patent Belle et Mimi 'Sunrise' mary-janes (Barratts)
Metallic pink Iceberg full-frame glasses (Asda)
Pewer 'Odin's horn' pendant on cotton thong (local bookshop)

Added when out: Abstract print silk scarf in 'moody' colours (inherited); black wool coat (Asda).

GrammarGirl, I have added you to my blog-roll. You have the kind of style I would like to steal!

Think the January blues is hitting everyone :( I have been very restrained and not really ventured into town yet, but have a long list of things that I really want and know I will end up getting if I see them!

I too have that age old problem of filling my wardrobe with things that have yet to be worn, the Mr often comments on how many things still have the labels on them!

    Today I am wearing

    Yellow shift dress, H&M
    Black boyfriend cardigan, Primark
Skinny black and gold belt, Primark
    Black tights, Primark
    Black riding boots, New Look
    Black and Gold Necklace, Present

Just updating my blog now, why is it whenever you try and upload pics the internet decides it doesn't want to co-operate!

Evening all! Welcome to the newbies!

Just catching up on blogs and posts after a hectic day of eBaying and Pilates.
Today's outfit of dove grey jersey hareems, long sleeved skinny purple top, short puff sleeved black cardi, vintage crocheted black shawl wrapped around the neckand taupe stack heeled knee boots didn't really justify a blog entry so I've stuck what I wore on Saturday night on instead.

Hope everyone's well and keeping warm in this hideously cold weather.

    See you tomorrow,
    Goan

Flying visit for me, just to say hello and how are you all. Another glasses wearer here, although I occasionally wear contacts. I could do with some new frames actually, so I might have a shop around at the weekend. Currently sporting black and silver geeky Guccis, but I've also got an amber coloured Maxmara pair as well.

    Today's outfit:
    long black sweater dress
    black woollen tights
    black Frye boots

Also wearing my new Lush Flower Garden perfume, which is just so gorgeous. If anyone can remember the little green Monet's Garden bath bombs from a few years back, that's the smell.

Hi everyone! Man alive, I have been on my Mac all night catching up with my various social media outlets! This blogging lark is a full time job. And my eyes hurt! :(

Anyway, it's so lovely to read so many positive responses to wearing glasses. I really do think they give you that little something special and make you stand out from the crowd. I also noticed Select Specs do some really awesome granny style glasses - for £5 all in I might give them a whirl!

Hectic, hectic day once again. Last night Mr and I decided to get serious about buying a house, meaning we need to save, save, save. I've never saved a penny in my life and am a terrible emotional shopper (like Caroline and Piratefairy!) so have imposed a shopping ban on myself for the next two months. God knows how I'll cope, but I'll keep you updated in here and on my blog. Eeeek!

    Today's was:

    Grey polka dot tea dress
    Grey long sleeved tee
    Grey tights
    Dusky pink cardigan
    Grey workman's boots
    Pink corsage
    Purple and pearl flower ring

It's great isn't it?! There's a massive thread about it on this board, think it's on page two. Something about really cheap glasses. Apparently the delivery can be very slow and some people have had problems but for £5 you can't complain! OH needs new specs so will wait for him to have an eye test then order a few pairs for us both. 'Citing!

... Does this count as shopping? Surely not! :o
  • Hello everyone

Sorry for boycotting this thread but desperately need some fashion advice.

Long story short: limited budget as on maternity leave, have £10 each of Next, Arcadia and New Look vouchers to use, some nights out in the next three or four months (including friend's hen night and my 30th birthday) and I have literally not bought anything for going out in the evening for about 3 or 4 years, except for a top from Topshop and a top from ASOS in the sales (can try to post pics of these tomorrow if these helps). Basically my going out in the evening wardrobe is a bit dated to say the least, except for my two new recent-ish tops :o

Anyway, when I went out a few weeks ago, I noticed that a lot of ladies are wearning skinny jeans and pumps soooo....

what I am thinking of getting is:

    Skinny jeans - http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?beginIndex=0&viewAllFlag=&catalogId=19551&storeId=12556&categoryId=42388&parent_category_rn=42385&productId=1553039&langId=-1

Shoes - http://www.newlook.co.uk/1780379/178037901/ProductDetails.aspx (these shoes will go with the Asos top as it is metallic on top).

Will these go together, do you think?

What sort of bag should I be getting?

I am so clueless when it comes to fashion and I always feel like I am wearing the wrong thing when I go out :(, so any help would be so much appreciated as I haven't really got anyone to ask.

P.S. I am petite, slim with a boyish figure (i.e. no curves) if that helps.
  • Hello Frugal Freda - welcome. Have you read my blog? You could be quoting from it!

I would go for black skinny jeans as they are so versatile, but New Look do them for £20 so try there. I am a big fan of New Look jeans. Also with a limited budget I would go for flat pumps as they would be more versatile. They have metallic flats for £16.

There you go I have saved you £24! New Look have £10 off when you spend £50 so you could get some jewellery to finish off your outfit.

Go for a big bag so you can use it as a mummy as well, Tesco had lots in their sale today when I was shopping.
