Thanks lostinrates... I am actually a contact lens wearer, was for ten years, then was diagnosed this year with corneal warping due to the contacts and was warned that my eye might never go back into shape properly, and that at least I was to stay off them for some months. Hence, two new pairs of glasses and me wondering who the stranger in the mirror is!
Well, then, you get to have frames. Being positive ...variety as well as a classic pair (and sunglasses! ) is good, but expensive. DH has his frames refitted with lenses each year. Gradually they make more of a fuss, but he's had two frames in the the last eight years or so. He has those flexiframes that can be sat on and bounce back, and actually they are expiring a bit sooner than his last ones. If you can wear rimless, my mother (think, thick lenses) has just got a very lovely barely there pair from Spec savers, even her thick lenses seem unobtrusive, there is one tasteful diamante (I know, but it really is nice, not OTT) on the gold coloured arms, which are very fine...barely there. They look a little as if made for a shy reticent to wear glasses fairy...so fine and unobtrusive are they.0 -
Vicki that dress is lovely! Definately one that can be dressed up or down and such a bargain!
Magpye, as a fellow glasses wearer I can sympathise with you, I have glasses but mainly wear contacts. I would recommend having a good old trawl through the internet or go into somewhere like specsavers and look at what glasses really suit your face shape. There are plenty of websites or offers on at opticians where you can get a couple of cheapy pairs of glasses so you can have different 'looks'.Expecting Baby No 1 - 20/06/14 - Team Yellow!0 -
Vicki that dress is great you look fab!
glad to hear the shopping trip went well, Daisy
Magpye, I think the outfit sounds well thought out actually, you seem to be keeping to a couple of colours which is a good start with minimum confidence..as for your purple skirt, what about the black boots, and a plain black top with a purple necklace or beads? Or a purple shrug?0 -
Hi everyone - just had a quickie read but not really time to answer everyone.
Had the most surreal evening with hubby and the boys (11 & 4). We were playing Band Hero - a 4 year old playing drums to NERD and Duran Duran has to be the weirdest thing ever.
Today I'm wearing blue skiny jeans, white long sleeve t under a jade green batwing t shirt, with a necklace so old I'm sure when or where I got it. I'll have a proper catch up tomorrow.0 -
Hi everyone, I've been lurking in this thread admiring all the outfits (and following a few on Google Reader - sorry! I'm not a stalker, just a bit shy
) and have come to the conclusion, ladies, that I really, really need some help. Wardrobe-wise, in case you wondered
. Can I join in?
I seem to have a total inability to put together the items in my wardrobe. I have a purple skirt I was dying to wear today, and came to the conclusion that it's a non-matcher - nothing I have seems to go with it. I'd like to go through life looking more like my outfit was designed, and less like some sort of hipster-ish bag-lady! It's worth noting that my confidence has taken a complete nose-dive since starting to wear glasses full time.
Outfit today (finally) was:
Black suede lace-up heeled boots (Schuh, had since I was 14)
Black self-stripe knee-length dancer skirt (La Redoute)
Bright purple tights (Ethel Austin)
Baggy black foil print t-shirt worn off the shoulder (gifted)
Stripy multi-coloured Lochcarron wool gauntlets (gifted)
Kookai pink and yellow floral prescription specs. (Asda)
Garnet drop earrings (Silver By Mail)
Purple eye make-up and lip gloss
Added when I went out:
Stripy multi-coloured Lochcarron wool scarf (gifted)
Black wool coat (Asda)
Dark grey Satchel/Handbag with silver star brooch and red starburst brooch attached (it's an awesome bag btw! gifted, star brooch La Redoute, starburst brooch DP, both old)
Wow. It sounds really... awful. When I see it all written down. :rotfl: Um. Help?
Magpye, your comment about wearing glasses full time affecting your confidence really grabbed my attention. I don't know if I'm one of the ladies you're following on Google Reader, but if I am you'll see I wear glasses full time, too! And I have done since I was 11.
One thing I want to get across - never, ever let wearing glasses dent your confidence! Glasses are hot! People like Alexa Chung wear plain lens glasses because they're cool. Geek chic is in! And even if you don't fancy following that particular trend, glasses are such a great accessory.
I spent quite a lot on my glasses (Gucci, love them!) because I wear them every single day. I chose a colour that really complements my skin tone and is easy to mix and match with my wardrobe. I've had them for over a year and am now looking for a few other (cheaper) pairs so I can change my look.
Wearing glasses can be an inconvenience, but I see mine as an extension of my face! I can't wear contacts as my eyes are too sensitive and don't think I'd ever dare get laser eye surgery. If my friends see me without mine, they tell me I look weird. And I do look odd without them! I couldn't imagine my style without my glasses.
I really hope you come round to the idea of wearing your glasses full time. I honestly think those old cliches of geeks, nerds and losers have died out amongst adults - I got plenty of 'specky four eyes' comments in school but can't imagine anyone saying that to me these days. Finding a really awesome pair will help you establish your style and who you are. Good luck!xxx

Just caught up with the thread - when I saw Magpye's comment I just had to reply immediately! So yes, hello all, hope you're well. I'm feeling utterly stressed - have just taken on a massive website project at work and it's a nightmare.
Anyway, today I wore:
Skinny jeans
Red long sleeved tee
White and navy striped tee
White and blue striped blazer
Red bow heels
Blue swallow brooch
Happy Tuesday (or not, as the case may be!)

I've worn glasses since I was about 5 (after having to wear a patch on one eye in infant school. The dreaded patch
) and I love them. I've tried contacts once and they felt horrendous and then pinged straight back out again so I've come to the conclusion (for now) that they're not for me! Magpye, I bet you look great in yours, they might just take a bit of getting used to. And for what it's worth, I think your outfit today sounds fab.
My current specs, for those that are interested, are these and these in brown. Love them both, I think my face looks a bit undressed without them.
Vicki - you look absolutely lovely in that dress! I do like seeing pictures of people who post on here
Daisy - do we get pics of the new purchase?0 -
morning all, hope today is going well for you
todays outfit was fairly uninspired, but the shoes are here for all to see lol, more ICs of course! along with black tights, and a black / floral print warehouse dress (one of the only things i have ever managed to bring myself to pay full price for in warehouse and the pic will be on the blog laters..) with a boring black primark cardi, and a gorgeous duck egg blue swing coat from the river
island 09 jan sale..super busy at work today, so will update blog when i can
ETA in response to all the glasses talk, i really dont think they're uncool, i was always disappointed when i didnt need them, as have always fancied going for the geek chic look!0 -

I'm off out with my best friend soon to meet my grandparents for coffee (best friend is like family so we're having a catch up). I get the feeling people are trying to force me out of the house this week
