I like the dress a lot (but personally would wear it as a day dress). Its a great price, and worth trying in any case!

Thanks DB And LIR, I'm still torn,I just love the print, and was thinking that if I go for borderline (just smart enough) I could wear it as a day dress too. Just don't want to look stupid, all the other mums going are really well off and probably going to have gorgeous dresses. Why didn't I marry a rich man lol!
It's my 30th this year (eeek) so could wear it then if I actually do anything to celebrate!0 -

If its a one off have you considered hiring? (or borrowing?). I'd still get this, I think its a practical dress that won't date and will give you YEARS of wear and it IS versatile.
re birthday. I celebrated 30 for the first time last year, and am looking forward to celebrating it again this year, and next year. After that I might try 31 for a while
:rotfl:
I think it depends how fancy the fundraiser is on the dress code....the ones I've been to have been more evening dressy/cocktail dressy if evening functions, but I think that would alter with where in the country it was...e.g. how urban/rural and where the function is held. The important thing is to dress in a way true to you IMO.0 -
Vicki - get it anyway, it's fab! I'm not sure if it's quite dressy enough for a posh function though - I have visions of people in satin ballgowns! But I don't go to that sort of thing so what do I know?

Must stop looking at clothes websites. I want that Yumi poppy dress you can see in the sidebar! Or the face print one. Argh!0 -
I don't think it's cocktail dresses. It's not black tie, my friend who is organising the event said it was party dresses which doesn't mean much to me as I would happily wear jeans to a party. The event is in a local suburban hall so not a fancy venue. It's so difficult isn't it?
I'd rather be a little underdressed in something flattering than too OTT as I don't really do glamourous (I'd feel too self conscious).
I think you hit the nail on the head with wearing something true to myself though so think I'll order it and see...
What would you wear with it for a daytime look LIR?0 -
Oooh I love that dress! I think if the dress code is 'party dresses' then it should be OK?
I'd wear with flats and a cardi for daytime - this is a look I want to get more into actually, I wear plenty of dresses for work but want some for play too. I went into HoF today to look in Coast at my dress I love but it was £5 more there than online, but I did get to try it on. Going to do the maths and see how much cashback I can get, might order it later. I also got to looking around the department and there are loads of things I love in the sale, leaving it to fate to see what's left on payday and might allow myself a £15 spend. Some lovely dresses in the new Therapy collection too: I particularly love THIS and THIS - augh, wish I was made of money!! I blame this thread for my new found hunger for clothes!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
I want that hot air balloon dress now, oh dear!0

That budgie dress is brilliant, although a wee bit too short for my liking.
Tete - did you like the Coast dress enough to buy it online?0 -
If you want to talk short dresses, the one I ordered from ASOS the other day is indecent! I love it too much to send it back, so I shall treat it as a long top and pair with jeggings. Almost gave my Mum a heart attack when I tried it on.
I might get some lace and add a couple of inches to the bottom with that.0 -

Aha, yes, then, I think you could work it well!:j
Day time I'd wear it most of the year you know, with a cardi, or perhaps a swing jacket. I think it would work with boots, or flats, or day heels...in the red colour of the detail.
I love dresses.
I will not loo at the others. DH ADORES hot air ballons. I've spent a big chunk on some facials this morning and have decided to go ahead and get the carvela shoes (in fact, a little job I have is paying for them) so MUST not see too much more for a while.
DH is ''paying'' me £10 per kilo I lose so that when I'm at weight I feel content with I have some money for clothes. I lost two kilos this week.
