Hahahahaha! My first thoughts too!! Thought I'd better keep my lewd mind to myself at the time though!!!!

ETHEL AUSTIN.....well I wouldn't go out of my way to go there!!

One of the first Ethel Austin actually started in the district of Liverpool where I grew up and my mum used to buy her knitting wool there and buy us ankle socks etc, that used to be kept in those old-fashioned chest things behind the counter with lots of little drawers that most of you will be too young to remember! I used to shop there for baby stuff when the kids were little, but the likes of Primark and the cheap supermarket ranges weren't around then!

I haven't bought anything from there for years and TBH just went straight for the tights as the clothes can look cheap, but on reflection the quality is probably no different than the supermarkets/ Primark/ matalan etc so it's probably worth casting an eye around for the odd thing, if you're passsing! I think I'll look again properly next time!

It was your use of the word 'boning' that made me giggle. :)
  • I've never been in Ethel Austin, I'm in Yorkshire and there don't seem to be any near me... although I think there is one in Doncaster if I could be bothered to travel a little way. Is it any good? The tights sound fab!

Hi I'm in Yorkshire too, Huddersfield to be precise and they have just opened a big ethel austin where woolworths used to be =, I'm not sure if that is any closer to you?

    Evening, gang!

Just off to a firework party, wonder if I'll be too busy chatting and drinking to notice the fireworks (like last year :o).

I'm mostly in black tonight and just asked BF what he thought, the reply was "wow, you look like Lara Croft", I bl***y wish!

    So outfit is:
Black self-customised ripped jeans (River Island via boot sale)
Black ribbed vest (TopShop via boot sale)
Vintage black braided waistcoat (Charity shop)
Tod's turquoise python boots (Car boot)
Gold and turquoise dress rings (Topshop and Accessorize via boot sale)
Gold dangly earrings (Indian women's co-operative, India)
Turquoise and brass bangles (presents, car boot, India)
Huge gold pendant with turquoise and red stones (TopShop sale)
Vintage black faux fur jacket (Jumble sale)

Gloves, bag and hat when I've decided which of the many in my collection!

    Have a great evening!
    xxxxx

PS Ethel Austin are okay for tights and our local branch often has some good makeup (Urban Decay, Hard Candy, Bourjois) at bargain prices. They did feature in Grazia a couple of years ago as being trendy but since the chain went into liquidation and was taken over it's pretty horrid.

GG - longtime lurker, old poster here :) I'm in Leeds too & just wanted to say I'm sure that Ethel Austin have opened a shop in the Merrion Centre, where Mark One used to be - the complex with Morribogs in at the top end of town? I might be wrong but think I saw the sign last time I walked past!
    Baby Boy arrived March 25th 2010 - 17 days late & 8lb 10oz :j

Hi Gymfiend, don't worry - I remember you! You did the carboot near the airport, I hope my directions got you there okay! There's a great afternoon boot in Otley (12-4, follow the signs at the Pool crossroads) if you want to do another now the airport one has finished.

Anyway, thanks for that info! I haven't been in the Merrion Centre for a while but next time I'm in town I'll take a look. If only for the tights! :)

I'm getting super-frustrated with all forms of technology today... can't get my blog to transfer from Tumblr to Blogger (have been viewing RSS feeds and converting to XML docs all weekend with no joy :(), my camera is driving me CRAZY and my laptop is on its last legs. Boo. I did go to an amazing fireworks display last night though!

    Today's outfit is:
    Skinny jeans
Nude coloured jersey t-shirt with fabric necklace attached
    Brown cardigan
    Brown leather brogues
    Wooden bangle
    Owl face ring
Purple and gold floral printed scarf

And probably my cream mac and gloves when I go out in a bit. Happy Sunday!

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Morning, isn't it a glum-weather Sunday?

DH and I were oliged to go to a drinks thing yesterday, but just poppedour heads it, then DH took me out to supper.

Fancied some sillyness, but drinks thing was reasonably sensible, so clothing was:

Purple crocheted dress, inky/muave tights (which Irealise later look a bit spam like in artificial light but were okish) deisel shoes: high heeled ivory ish suede with puple toes, and pink stripes, love these shoes...i got at tk maxx. A purple and green ring from accesorise aout 7 years ago. Then, didn't feel silly enough :) so added pink and purple past necklace and bracelet from I think new look, I remember certainly Oxford street, 2004 Christmas collection, rofl.

Anyway.felt happy, looked a bit purple, but ok. All the old ladies loved the OTT paste jewellry. :)

    Afternoon!

Lostinrates - you crack me up with your description of spam tights. I used to be very fond of a pair of crocheted brown tights until a friend called me "Weetabix Legs".

Off to an indoor boot sale shortly. Beautiful day here, bright and sunny if a bit chilly.
    Today's outfit:

Vintage leopard print tunic dress with huge shoulder pads (A friend's cast-off)
    Black leggings (Freebie)
Vintage black knee high leather boots (Car boot)
Brass and black Biba bangles (Car boots and hand-me-downs)
Black long sleeved teeshirt (Mango via boot sale)
Urban outfitters black studded scarf necklace (Car boot)
Vintage black leather belt with brass rivets (Job lot off eBay)
Gold cocktail ring and gold ring with a brass buddha (TopShop/Bay)

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
