Hi Paula, welcome to the fashion thread!
Re: Apple Bottom jeans, I'd say yes. Although now I have that Flo Rida song in my head!
Jeans and sparkly top is a perfectly acceptable outfit - the outfit I wore out on Saturday involved black skinny jeans, a black sequin vest top and black glittery strappy heels. There are loads of sparkly tops on the high street at the moment for about £30, which at first seems a lot but it's a classic piece so it's worth it!
On a Min-based note, it's another quiet afternoon at work (although I'm expecting that to change very soon), and today's outfit is:
- Red scoop neck and scoop back top (Dorothy Perkins)
- Charcoal grey wide leg trousers (French Connection via sister)
- Nude quilted ballet pumps with patent toe (New Look)
- Black wool mix military style flared jacket (New Look) to come into work
- Multicoloured stripy wool scarf, beanie hat and mittens (Accessorize) to come into work
- Brown leather handbag (birthday present)
- Usual jewellery
Perfume, hairstyle and nail polish are the same as yesterday.
In work until around half five, then home to exercise, do some job applications and generally chill out.

Afternoon, gang!
Welcome to the thread, Paula. I must admit Min's post completely went over my head -minerva_windsong wrote: »Re: Apple Bottom jeans, I'd say yes. Although now I have that Flo Rida song in my head!
Never heard of the jeans or the song. Maybe it's not on Kerrang's playlist!
With your impressive weightloss I'm sure you'll have the confidence to look fab in anything, well done!
It's been lovely here today, but the rain's just started, I hope it's gone in time for tomorrow's car boot sale. Been to Pilates today then to a Fair Trade sale at the local church (few more Xmas pressies ticked off).
It's BF's homemade pizza and red wine, Spooks and The Family on TV so a lovely evening ahead.
Today's outfit:
Customised ripped up jeans with brooches and chains (River Island via Car Boot Sale 50p, customising by me - photos on blog!)
Black opaque tights
Black lace-up patent high heeled brogues (Charity shop £2.95)
American Apparel grey jersey teeshirt dress (Car Boot 50p)
Black scarf necklace with studs (Urban Outfitters via Car Boot Sale 50p)
Silver tribal bangles and rings (India)
Turquoise polished stud earrings (Present)
Fluffy teal slouchy beenie (River Island £5)
1950's style tailored cobalt blue cropped jacket (TopShop 4 years ago)
Vintage black suede handbag with huge metallic leather corsage attached (Car Boot Sale £1)
Have a lovely evening!

MSE task for the day: I have a great red knitted empire line dress that keeps giving on the stitching on the empire seam. I've sewn it a couple of times and was going to give up andbin it yesterday but I do really like it, so I'm going to give it one last attempt at repair.
How about sewing some clashing fringing, ribbon or braid across the weak stitching bit? I reckon some gold fringe (like you get on the bottom of old fashioned sofas) would look cool!0 -

Not, it definitely wouldn't be!
Go on YouTube/Spotify and search for 'Flo Rida - Low'. Although I will warn you now that you will get it stuck in your head all day!"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -

I've just checked it out on YouTube - God, it's annoyingly catchy! I need some rock music to help get it out of my head!!!0 -
I'm knew to this thread so please be gentle with me
I despearatley need some fashion advice please.
I'm going out for a girly night out with old college friends - drinking and dancing and reliving our youth. Not done this for YEARS. What do people wear nowadays?! nice jeans, glam top and heels? slinky dress? I don't want to look like mutton, but not like a geography teacher either.
I don't have any smart trousers to wear with a glam top instead of jeans - the ones i would have worn are all too big (yay but also a pain in the smaller !!!!). I'm chuffed with my new body so want to show it off a bit but I'm 39 now and I'm very aware that I still have a bit of a muffin top at the sides, and more of my belly, poking over my not very low cut jeans, and that the youngsters are likely to be abdominally toned. (i have seen much worse being shown in my local co-op but i know i'll still be self conscious of my untoned bits).
Also, I've just got some Apple Bottom jeans from ebay. Are they still trendy? I hope so because they feel fantastic on!
help!
Firstly I'll say jeans will never go out of style, so I think you're safe with your Apple Bottoms.
Secondly, I don't think it matters what other people wear - what do you want to wear? What do you feel comfortable in? I tend to wear dresses, tailored shorts or skirts on nights out because I wear jeans all the time and like to feel a bit special when going out, but if you want to wear jeans go for it! What about a nice pair of slinky jeans with a sparkly top like Min says, or if you want to be a bit fashionable, maybe a sequin waistcoat over a plain tee, or a sequin beret? I've just bought a fab jersey top from Primark with big structured shoulders - I plan to wear it with skinny jeans, a sequin waistcoat, a long necklace and some rocking shoe boots for a smart casual night out, maybe a meal at a restaurant or drinks at a bar. For dancing I ALWAYS wear a dress or skirt because it just feels so great!
Just make sure you feel comfortable in what you're wearing. If you're self conscious it might affect your fun night out. Choose something you love and feel great in and you're sure to have a fabulous time!0 -
Hello to the rest of you. My outfit is hardly worth mentioning today - I was wearing something different this morning but felt frumpy and old lady-ish so threw something else on.
Skinny jeans
Wine coloured polo neck
Cream and navy striped boat neck jumper
Brown studded boots
Long gold hoop necklace
Blah. Tomorrow will be better, promise!0 -
Morning all,
not feeling much better, but have a busy day ahead. Baking this morning (per demand of Mum's workmates!) and visiting Grandparents with a friend this afternoon.
Wearing:
Grey skirt with brown button detail: £5 river island sale
Brown short sleeve knitted top: £6 Ethel Austin, I think, its hard to describle the style of this top; kind of has neck and arm detal.
Brown floral tights: Betsey Johnson- gift from a friend
Not sure what shoes etc yet.
I've put up a preview of the next Giles Deacon for New Look range on the blog if anyone is interested0 -
Morning gang!
The rain has just stopped but far too damp for this morning's boot sale plans, boo! There's a jumble sale later tho' so hopefully get my fix from there today. I've a morning of eBaying planned so thought I'd check in here first before getting stuck in.
Today's outfit:
American Apparel grey teeshirt dress (50p car boot sale)
Black leggings (Pressie from a pal)
Cream lace top (Cut a vintage dress off just below the armpits as it was very damaged - 5p jumble sale)
Silver tribal jewellery (India)
Huge pearl dropper earrings simulating bunches of grapes (Mum's from the 60's)
(Shall add vintage black leather boots and a purple leather coat when I go out later)
Have a great day!

In work until around half five, then home for a bit before nipping to the salon for an eyebrow wax and packing to go to London tomorrow."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0
