We keep large dogs and have been burgled. Its our smaller dog, a greyhound, who is proving more deterrant than the big guys. But yes, I have heard horrid tales of what burglars do to smaller dogs to shut them up.:(

Just wondering: what does everyone else here do for christmas, ..smart? Fancy..pjs? We do either fancy (black tie) if we have company, or eclectic housewear....of the ld evenong dress and wooly stick style, if alone. Considering a ''laid back'' Christmas for firt time....not only just us, but, not smart meal etc. Has anyone dramatcially changed chrsitmas ''style'' before? e.g. black tie to jeans and jumper? how did it go down?

    Hi
The bosses have decided that this years theme for the xmas party is gangsters and molls. God help me
I have no idea what to get there is a dress code (sort of) No dresses above the knee and they have to be long (apparently we are allowed a split in it this year)
    Any ideas greatly appreciated

Crikey, I think immeadiately of flapper, but tough if has to be full length. google image throws up some inspiration but its less gangster's moll that supper at the ritz to my mind. nIf it only has to be below knee I'd go for flapper and fringing, with a hat and a gun:o

    Hi gbt!

Gangster's molls are usually 1920's-style flapper girls, think below-the-knee beaded or sequinned dresses, cloche hats, feather boas, fur coats, cigarettes in elegant holders, long strings of pearls, feather head-dresses and smoky eyes. With gangsters it's double-breasted pin-stripe suits, correspondent (two tone) shoes, violin cases, trilby hats, cigars and pistols.

Lostin rates: it's my first Xmas day at home for aaaages (boo) so I've wore a bikini on the day for the last ten years. I can't stand the thought of being in the UK so think I'll be wearing a duvet from 24th december until we fly out on 28th!

Glowgirl - BF would love a dog but the three cats and tortoise would never forgive us plus, like you said, our lifestyle wouldn't be fair on a mutt. Your suggestion of a drink worked wonders, I'm calm now and have looked out my grandad's old cricket bat!

Goanmad, sorry to hear about the snooper. I get really freaked out by gardens at night - my mum's house has a long, dark garden that I used to hate walking down. A dog would help, but I think you should've set the tortoise on him! :)

Daisy, glad the docs went okay. I'm confused about jeggings. On the one hand, I want to hate them for all they stand for, but on the other.. so comfy! Hmm, might have to check them out come payday.

LiR - for Christmas I always go smart-casual. I don't live at home so Christmas is a big deal for us. The whole family gets together which is often hard to do throughout the year but we always make it for Christmas. I go back and stay in my childhood home which I LOVE. I live in the city but my mum's is in the countryside and it's so magical. We watch movies by firelight, go for long, snowy walks with the dogs, eat homemade mince pies, etc. All very cliche but I adore it! On the day itself I usually wear a smart dress with thick woolly tights and boots. Nothing too fancy but not PJs either.

    Today's outfit was SO uninspired:

    Skinny jeans
Black jersey top with cream embroidery
    Brown cardi
    Brown leather waist belt
    Brown brogues
    Gold bangle stack
Heart-shaped black and gold cocktail ring
    Purple and gold vintage scarf

    Yawn! Better tomorrow. :)

    Morning all,
bit of embarrassment first thing when I answered the door to a very lovely young delivery man at 7:20am wearing "Incredibles" boxer shorts and a white tee!
His parting words were "nice PJs" :o

    Anyway,
    now wearing something more decent!
    - long-ish ruffle front checked blouse: new look
    - jeggings- new look
    - grey suede ankle boots- new look
    - D&G watch- 21st birthday present

    Hi all and welcome gbt!

Sounds like the boss's wife has imposed the dress code, fancy dress is supposed to be fun.....if one is worried about 'appropriateness' (such a word??) for a work do, then why do fancy dress? .....if you ask me!!

Flapper sounds the most fun to me, but some other random ideas.......

Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde wore a beret....there are lots in the shops now!

You could do a sexy female version of a male gangster in a trouser suit and trilby, there's an example on the link . These ideas are a bit OTT for the 'rules', but you could maybe adapt, the knee length shirt dress idea.

    Have fun!

    Morning!

Daisybella, why is it that attractive men always come to the door when you're wearing something terribly unsuitable, have a face pack or shower cap on?

Just got back from the Indian High Commission where I've been queuing since 7.30 to apply for my visa. Very cold and soggy now but met some lovely people (as we always do) so had a fun time! Just got to go back on friday to collect them.

Back for a day of eBaying and I've also started customising an old evening gown that is far too tatty and stained to wear.

    Today's outfit:
Acid wash skinny jeans with high waist (Sample stall)
Vintage lime green puddy bow lace blouse (eBay)
TopShop boyfriend cardi in black angora (Car Boot)
Vintage purple leather platform knee high boots (Chazza shop)
Vintage purple and green checked coat (Jumble sale - pix on my blog)
Vintage green and electric blue plaited leather belt (Chazza shop)
    Purple slouchy hat (TopShop)
    Tribal bangles and rings(India)
    Green woollen arm warmers (Present)
    Huge turquoise chandelier earrings (Present)

    Have a good day!
    xxxx
