Ah, the poor old bank manager. An old foe of mine. I'm much better these days but as a student, I was terrible. I once got a call from HSBC about some 'suspicious transactions' on my account and had to sit and listen as he read them out... '£20.05 in Topshop (me), £56.79 in Gap (me), numerous charges in Primark (me)...' The shame!0

Part of the idea for these thrads in the beginning though, was to keep the spends in control.
Grammergirl I love the recycled outfits as discussed today. I was doing the same today, my trusty black slik, over a ifferent slip that shows through.
re shoes: I have at least three pais un worn that I know of (asda gold sandals and two pairs of new look heeled pumps, one lemon one green,) that have never been worn out ...I never buy shoes from new look now, they hurt me, and the asda ones I did try to wear once, they are lovely flats. I should give them to someone I guess....0 -
Just caught up with the thread. Been off for a few days, feeling rough.
I'm loving the blog goanmad. Love the tips on vintage shopping. I like mixing vintage with high st, or should I say vintage with allsaints. I'm after a vintage cross body tooled saddle bag, but I'm really fussy and the ones on ebay are either wrong shape, too much tooling, or just not worth the money. Any tips?

Indeed, LIR. My quest is still moneysaving while looking good. That's ultimately what my blog's about, hence the name. Clothes have gotten me into trouble before and I don't want to be there again, so although I'm still shopping I'm trying to be savvy about it.0 -

I'd say ''truely stylish'' and that excessive spending is arguably less stylish as it relies on money not imagination or inventiveness.0 -
Morning girls:D
Today I'm wearing
White skinnys - French Connection
Bat win stripy black and white top - French Connection
Black biker boots - office
Baggy loose knot cardy - warehouse
Very long chunky black and white scarf - Jane Norman (years ago, does it still exist?)
White Spy bag - Fendi
I am in everyones good books at home because yesterday I won £100 worth of clothes from Atticus, never heard of them myself but dd, ds and OH all liked the stuff and had no problem spending the cash:rolleyes: Off shopping now, be back later:)Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -

Today:

just realised I've been really slack wearing jewellery lately

OK, after much deliberation today:
my black evening dress wih the bleach problem..(still unrsolved, but hidden by a black and brown scarf tied as a belt and some folding), brown boots, back cardigan, a couple of wood bangles. No earings to day, smart gold sunlasses. Out I'll wear one of my favourite hats: black wide brim felt, some brown beads (£2.50 from a sales bin in Accesorise!), and if I need it my vintage Burberry.0 -

That's so true. Creativity definately breeds style. I occasionally watch "Sixty Minute Makeover" when a designer completely re-decorates a house from top to bottom - I find the result soulless and totally lacking in personality and believe a wardrobe completely filled with this season's purchases has the same effect - bland and uninspiring with no indication of the wearer's personality.
alias123 - thanks for your comments! I love tooled leather saddle bags and now have quite a collection, as you'd expect they're all second-hand and my only advice is to be patient -keep searching the chazza shops and add "Vintage tooled leather cartridge/saddle bag" to your favourite searches on eBay. You will find one to your liking eventually, don't be put off by condition as an overnight treatment with leather food will restore it to it's former glory.
fairly_good_fairy - hope the pilates tummy is feeling okay this morning. Mine's killing me!
Anyway, I'm very disapointed with the weather as I can't go to my favourite car boot sale, however one of my pal's is having a major pre-house move declutter and I'm going round later (with plenty of wine) to help her sift through her three double wardrobes crammed with posh frocks, handbags, shoes and jackets she's had since the early 1980's. She is a make-up artist and has promised me a shoe box full of Kanebo/Dior and YSL make-up she no longer uses, yipee :j!
Today's outfit:
Vintage 1970's Bayeaux Tapestry printed maxi skirt (£5 vintage shop in town)
Grey topshop vest (Ancient)
Vintage denim waistcoat (Ditto)
Indian tribal silver bangles and rings
Huge silver filgree choker in shape of wings (Car boot sale £1)
Silver earrings with strings of turquoise and coral gemstones (£2 India)
Have a great day, gang!0 -
