I also worked out a debt free date! Assuming the worst - that my landlady gives me nothing back - I should atill be back at "the starting block" by November 2011. Which is either depressing or encouraging - it depends how I look at it....

Think of this date as the latest that it will be cleared.

I'm sure that with all the tips on this board (and for major inspiration there is Hypno's diary on the diary board, I just don't know how she does it) you will be become more MSE :money: and this date will move forward.

You'll be debt free before you know it and then you can work on savings.

good luck! it sounds like you're heading in the right direction, which i think is at least half the battle. and when i'm feeling fed up, i remember that although some people are better off then i am, lots are not - there will be loads of people on here who would LOVE to have a debt free date of 11/11! it sounds a long way off, but it's only 25 months...you'll get there.
Mortgage free as of 11/11/15 !
:Anow... to start some serious saving :A

  • Well, it's now four days to pay day and I have £20 left. Which is better than last month. I have, however, agreed to go out for a meal (an all you can eat buffet for £12) on Wednesday, which was a bit stupid of me. I forgot I'm not allowed to go out...

Really looking forward to doing a shopping trip on Friday - the "Ready Steady Cook" of my depleted cupboard is starting to get a bit weird. I have cous cous tomatoes and cashew nuts for lunch today, chips and beans tonight, cous cous and onions with herbs and salt is probably tomorrow!

Can you put it off until after you get paid? Pled poverty - it's true and people will understand :D

I know how you feel! I went to see a friend and her newborn baby on sat and had been led to believe we'd just be staying in. but of course she hasn't been out yet so fancied going to the local for food and drink!! i hadn't budgeted for it (and i technically did have money but it was supposed to be for bills and not dinner out) but how could i refuse. stupid thing is however, that because she is one person who knows my full situation when i looked a bit uneasy about it she offered to pay for me! and i refused, becuase i did have some money on me. I really need to accept these kind offers and not let my old pride get in the way! Old habits are very hard to break!

I would just say that cannot go waiting for pay day.

Hello BIW and others, I've just been reading through this thread and everyone seems so supportive. I saw that you have taken to having cous cous for lunch. I wondered if you had looked at the Approved Food website? They sell packets of cous cous at 10 for £1! There are loads of other cheap packet meals on there e.g 6 boxes of cuppa soup for £1!.

For those who don't know about it,(sorry if you already do!) this website sells food that has been discontinued at supermarkets or is after it's BBE date, but perfectly safe to eat. I've used it several times and it has had a really positive effect on my grocery bill. There are discussions about this site on the Food Shopping thread, and it is completely legit.

Delivery is £5.25 but I tend to do one mammoth shop every month or so and the savings are huge. You could even get a friend to share a shop with you to bring the cost down?

HTH, and best of luck on your debt free journey x

It's a bit of an awkward one. Two of my flatmates are leaving the house (and area) so it's sort of the last chance and I already said ages ago that I would go. It'll look really rude if I fdon't!
