I used to work in the CAB albeit soooo long ago but we also got post and replied that way. Now I think you can also seek help/advice online. There's a link at the top of the page I think?

I expect she hopes you'll go away! So be persistent. You need the money more than she does.CCs @0% £24k Dec 05 £19,621.41 Au £13400 S 12600 Oct £11,981 £9481 £7500 Nov £7250 D £7100 Jan 6950 F £5800 Mar£5400 May £4830 June £4660 July £4460 Aug £3200, S £900, £0 18/9/07 DFW Nerd 0420

Hi BiW - you are doing great and the difference between 7 years ago and now is that you now have this brilliant site to give you the support, help and advice to keep you positive and focused. You have inspired me and have made me think about my own spending habits, which have slipped lately and now I am ready to get back on the wagon.
Have you ever thought about doing sewing for other people - I am looking for someone to make me some curtains ...... so if you are up for it?When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:0 -

I'm not sure about that just yet - it's been a long time since I've done any sewing, so I need to get back into it before I can start risking doing things for others! Having said that, it has occurred to me as a possibility for the future... watch this space!
Well, I'm doing OK at the moment I think. I feel quite happy actually - partly because I've just had a really wonderful weekend with bf that involved us spending not much more than a tenner between us. (Days out looking at free tourist stuff rock!).
I've also noticed I'm a little bit better off this month than I was this time last month. Only a little, but enough for me to notice - so something good must be happening. If this is going to be a recurring pattern I should be out of my overdraft not far into new year, which is encouraging.0 -
Just had a thought...would you be up to doing alterations for folk? By hand at first, then as the money from that came in you could buy a sewing machine virtually for 'free'
I always have to take up trousers, & with me muvva being such a short-house it's fallen to me to do cuffs & skirts & things now she is unable to do it herself. Having said that, there are still some things I'm not able to do.
It seems that transforming garments is also back in vogue--a pair of jeans into a denim skirt springs to mind--or adding a bit of bling. You could be offering these kinds of things at just the right time, with the party season about to kick off.

Well, I haven't updated for a while.
First of all, I have discovered freecycle in a BIG way (I was kind of aware of it and a member for quite a while, but never really used it properly) I am now the proud owner of an almost new sewing machine (it's a little one, but I think it's more than sufficient to start me off with) and a big noticeboard for my bedroom wall - the idea being that I can pin my calendar and my bills and reminders up where I can clearly see them and be more organised as a result - as well as sticking up some family photos and some of my old art postcards to make me feel happy when I look at it every day.
Freecycle rocks more than I imagined - I would definetly recommend to those who haven't used it before. I will definetly use if I ever have anything I need to get rid of (before chucking out or hiding under the bed) as well.
I'm now two weeks until pay day again - which is the situation I was in when I started this thread. The difference is, I now have £100 still in my bank account, plenty of food in the cupboard, and all my month's bills are paid. Obviously I am still in stupid nasty annoying frustrating debt. But I'm not in a state of blind panic any more. And a lot of that I have to acknowledge, is due to the support of everyone who's contributed or responded to this thread in any way - so really want to take the opportunity to say a massive THANK YOU to all of you, because although I've got a long way to go and a lot to learn, and a lot of things still to do, I do feel like things have already changed so much.
I have to see the doctor one day next week, so I'm considering taking a half day off and visiting citizens advice about my landlady the same morning/ afternoon. Do you think it's worth it?0 -
Will CAB allow you to book an appointment? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

HI BiW,
Good to hear you are doing so well. It's a good feeling not being terrified about the length of time left till payday and the amount of money you have left. Well done.
It is definitely worth going to the CAB about your landlady, especially if you've got the afternoon off anyway. Good luck with it, make sure to let us know how you get on.
Must go and check out this freecycle business for myself!
