Just thought that anyone reading this thread might be interested in this Book:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/money/article4687192.ece
I read it recently (it's been out for a while) and my DD read it too - she's at uni and she thought a lot of the 'free entertainment' ideas were brilliant. The author dragged her mates along to lots of the 'freebies' she found to do! My DD has already made enquiries about one of the suggested 'entertainments' - volunteering at a dog rescue centre to take doggies walkies! My DD really missed our dogs last year and she and her BF think this is a brilliant (and very cheap if they don't end UP with a dog LOL) idea.
You can pick up a copy second hand off Amazon I guess or get it from a library. The writer was very concencious (spl?) about NOT cheating, a darn site more than I would have been, and I'm not sure that I really 'approve' of hitching (I'd have a fit if my DD did it!)
There are several articles about this book online if you poke about.
Regards

Just read all through the thread, hope everything is ok? Its lovely to see how nice people can be:T When things straighten out and you may start thinking of maybe saving the odd pound or two:D see if you have a credit union by you, I find mine is great specially when life throws that odd curve ball and you have to raise extra money they are very helpful and intrest is very low(future washing machine disasters now covered thanks to them) also see if you have a LETS (www.letslinkuk.net) scheme in your area, ours is great and of course the big bonus no sterling needed. You're doing great:D0

BrokeinWales - worried about you. Please get in touch. Re"Don’t get me wrong, a lot of this is my own fault", mine was too, its easy to do. Don't beat yourself up. You'll get back on track I'm sure. Would like to help and its seems you are in Cardiff so that would make it much easier for me to do this as I am too! Please post a private message to me - I will keep a look at for it, though I'm not on the net that much I must say.0

Gosh, what a lovely bunch of people you all are. Read through this thread when I saw it in the email and it brought a lump to my throat. YOu are all so lovely0

You could try and sell some stuff on ebay, put payment option as Postal order only so when they send you payment take parcel post office and obviously postage cost will be included in postal order then you get paid for your item in your change :0) good luck0

There is a Food Bank in Cardiff, run by the Trussell Trust. Maybe you could see if you can get a food parcel from them?
http://www.cardifffoodbank.org.uk/
I was going to mention about a food bank too but wasn't sure where about in Wales you were. I volunteer at our local one and it provides a three day supply of food when you provide a voucher.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -
I have to agree that this has been a particularly heartwarming thread, and I too hope that BiW is ok.
Be careful pttl80 - eBay insist that you include Paypal as a payment option, and you can have listings removed if you don't. It is a good idea though, if you can persuade people to use Postal Orders.0 -
hey BIW, hope your ok and can get to update us soon hunIf we can put a man on the moon...how come we cant put them all there?

Hi all,
I need to read through all the things that have been posted in my absence and also get some thank you's to a few especially lovely people.
As you may recall, last time I posted I mentioned a cough. Said cough turned out to be the first sign of a chest infection that kept me house-bound for the best part of two weeks - which is why I haven't posted.
I was, at least, not spending a lot. (Pay day came at last!). And it gave me a chance to think about a lot of the things I'm not happy with in my life - of which my money problems are one, but also things like not having much of a career, or a social life, and generally feeling pretty c**ppy about myself a lot of the time. Mostly that just made me depressed - but part of me is thinking maybe it is possible to sort it all out.
I started by making myself a monthly budget - I'll probably have to revise it a bit, becaus, if I'm honest, I'm not organised and I'm dreadful at planning and working out what I should be doing with my money for the best - but at least I have some sort of guideline to start with.
I've got these ideas in my head that one day I'd like to have savings, and own my own house (or even a flat), my own car, and have a job I really like, and get a cat or two maybe (!) Just have all those normal things that normal people enjoy, instead of just coasting around from crisis to crisis. Maybe sorting my finances out is the start of that. Maybe it's not (little voice in head telling me that it's a losing battle and just to give up...).
But thank you so much to everyone here for all the support and concern and advice. It really has helped - you are all such lovely, caring and positive people that it can't help but make anyone reading feel better.0
