I used to go out and buy stuff without thinking and then one day I got myself into a lot hassle and had a couple of quid left. That really paniced me. Ifelt pretty rubbish and then realised through this website that a lot of it was things like getting cheaper electricity that could help. I stopped getting paid for newspapers and read the free Metro, which had the same things that I like (jokes, TV, stars etc) that the paid ones do. My money changed but I do still try and think do I need that, but have the odd slurge now and then. I take a loaf of bread to work (we have a toaster too) and it saves me tonnes of money, plus I don't have the think beyond getting it every Monday and some beans every now and then. I cant get up that early to do fancy stuff just not a morning person!! I have a drawer with soups and stuff too in work. I have bought some lovely tops in supermarket sales that people thought were expensive - I go to the expensive shops have a look but buy cheaper similiar stuff. I had a month of not spending anything other than essentials and the time I spent shopping changed bank accounts, gas, elec etc. and felt better for it. Had some great breaks away on the cheap, £1 megabus (Cardiff to London) and similar National Express and Travelodge deals (£19). Love this website for all its tips and support.0

No secrets here! It's just more the times you go shopping, the shops you go shopping in and the way we shop.
I could go into detail but it's all been done before on MSE, but it really can save you hundreds of pounds per year by looking on the next shelf down or planning ahead!Woohoo BIW is back in town!
Swiss le what are your le secrets?
See what you've started BIW? Your very own secret agent shopper in swiss le.
Glad all's well, I don't normally do Cardiff but I could be persuaded for a friend in need xxI'm going for my QuidCo £million!

I want to know how SwissLe got to nine grand on Quidco?!
Me too! I've tried all those cashback / quiz/ survey sites and never get anywhere! (That' a lie, I once managed to get £25 out of a survey site but it took me the best part of two years...)
Anywayyyy - I went and checked my bank balance at the weekend, and for the first time, like - ever - I had a bit more
money than I expected. I mean, I'm definetly not flush, but having paid my bills for the month, I expect to have enough to last me to next pay day, which is kind of a nice comfortable feeling. Obviously it'd be nice to feel like I'd get there with cash to spare to pay some extra off the debts - but I'm working on that! Maybe in a few months...
B/F (who took me for a lovely picnic at the weekend bless him) has said that he will help me write to my old landlady (not that he's a legal expert either, but it'll be a bit of moral support at least!) - and I hope that one day this week I'll be able to sneak out to the CAB at lunchtime for a chat. I'll let you all know how I got on.0 -

Exactly! I will admit that there's a certain temptation to relax and stop trying so hard when you realise that you have more than you thought, but I will not give in to it! The debts aren't going to pay themselves after all...0 -
If this was me..the reply's would overwhelm me and i would not be able to cope with the amount of offers i had been given and as the op said her in box has been full and full again..i bet she is overwhelmed by 16 pages of offers by people and to me just thinking about it would give me a headache...glad you are sorted food wise and can put your effort in getting your money back off your rachman of a land lady.good luck..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
Apologies straight off--I can't help but be a Mumma
You mentioned the bus fares a couple of days ago..wasn't there something in the newsletter about ordering a weekly[?] ticket on-line that cost less than getting it from the driversummink like that anyways
If you've recently had a cold that was bad enough to keep you from work for two weeks, you really should be taking a bit of extra care for a while or you could end up having more time off work. I know you enjoy the exercise element of it but just give your body a chance to fully recover before you get back to it full time, particularly with the changing weather.
OK--it's safe to look now ..BMF is leaving this thread

I'm only on page 6 of this thread (but working my way through it) and the generosity and kindness of people is humbling.
I've been on the receiving end of people's unexpected kindness (several offers of Christmas Day lunch from work colleagues who I barely knew whilst my hubby was in hospital) and it really restores your faith nin humanity.
best of luck BrokeInWales (although I think payday will have been and gone by now)Debts 07/12/2021
