As for what happened to the thread - I think discussions of BMI might actually be expected to stray from the main point (and am guilty of playing my part in that I'm afraid).....GotToChange wrote: »I'm losing the plot; this isn't even the BMI thread. I said earlier on this thread or that one that I didn't know where I am. This is the proof I guess.

3. when you know its time for a hair cut (or some other thing, one negative thing about my appearance takes all of the enjoyment out of shopping)
4. when hot and sweaty - not nice for trying on clothes and hot and flushed is even worse under changing room lights
5. when you are settling for second best - i.e. when you cant find the perfect top you saw two weeks ago
6. if you might wear it one day
7. if your daughter/mum/auntie/grandma wore one last week
8. if you notice loose threads or buttons hanging off - unless you religiously mend your clothes you know it will just stay in the bottom of the wardrobe
9. because you have the same top in 5 different colours (try being more adventurous)
10. if its shorter than you would let your teenager (hypathetical or real) out of the house in
Otherwise go for it

A well fitting bra makes a hell of a difference to the shape of the torsoe, rule of thumb: if your boobs are lower than the crook of your elbow you need a properly fitted bra, otherwise you end up looking as if your boobs and stomach are one body partAnd yes the lady in the avatar is me

If your bra is fitting correctly your nipple should be no lower than half way between shoulder and elbow. If your boobs are any where near your elbow you need a serious underwear overhaul!!!!
If your boobs aren't properly supported you risk sagging, back and shoulder problems. You can get excellent bras for £10 or less now in M&S right up to "big girl" sizes. So there is no excuse. The trouble is finding somewhere decent to get fitted. Bravissimo are excellent for larger ladies. Generally if they use a tape measure they don't know their !!!!! from their elbow, bra fitting has to be done on individual fit and feel.
Your bra is the most important thing you wear, spend some time getting it right, never buy a bra without trying it on first, even if you have many bras of that make, they vary even in similar styles.
If any of the following apply your bra doesn't fit:
- Band riding up round the back - try a smaller band, it should be snug on the loosest hook when you buy it.
- boob spilling out the top or "double boob" effect - you need a bigger cup size, possibly two cup sizes....
- boob escaping underneath or wires not sitting against your rib cage - cups are too small and possibly back size is too big.
- puckering or gaping in the cups, cup size is too big
- straps digging into shoulders - could just be the shoulder straps are too short, could mean you need a smaller back size so more support comes from the body or could mean your cup size is too small.
Remember the way bra sizing works, the band size is related to the size of your ribs and has nothing to do with the size of your boobs. The cup size refers to how much bigger your bust is than your ribs - not how big your boobs are!
So if you go up a back size you may need to go down a cup size to get the right fit and if you go down a back size you will need to go up a cup size. A 32D, 34C, 36B and 38A have space for the same volume of boob, the difference is the size of the ribs. Most women pick a too big back and too small cup, even if you think your bra fits, next time you buy a new one try a back size lower and cup size bigger and see what happens, you might have to try a few sizes to get it right but you might just amaze yourself!0 -
Brilliant - except M&S bras over a 40" back are truly, madly, deeply VILE.
Even BonMarche has better designs than M&S and trained fitters. Very tactful ones, too. I saw one ever so gently persuading a woman with about 6 boobs per side to go into the changing room for a fitting this week.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
wow, hi all,
Just read through everything that i missed and im sorry if i have personally ofended anyone.
I didnt start posting on this thread as a look at other people arent they silly but as a forum to discuss top tips and to learn from other peoples opinons.
As a former size 24 and now size 14 i have major issues with weight, with when to buy clothes and how they look, when i was big i had issues with knowing what looked good and didnt really have anyone to advise on how to dress better, so my comments are kinda aimed (in a slightly humours way i hope) to those people that dont realise how they look to others, in some cases (as it was in mine) because i looked in the mirror and all i saw was fat no matter what i wore and then didnt realise how awful i looked.
Also, i think its kinda hard to critique something external, a person is a human being, but externally you are just clothed flesh and bones, i dont judge people by the way that they dress (or i try not to anyway) but i do notice what poeple wear and mentally find myelf evaluating their style, even if i do not agree with the way it looks please dont think that i would ever walk up to a stranger and laugh at them, but my friends do know me to be honest, if you ask me if your bum looks big and it does i will tell you, but i will also explain why and maybe together we can work on a different outfit that flatters rather than highlighting other things.
Once again, im really deeply sorry if i have offended or upset anyone

Wow didn't know Bon Marche did bras even! and kudos to the lovely fitter!
Have you been in M&S recently? I have the opposite problem, small back, big boobs and in the last year they have vastly improved the selection of "Big Girl Bras" so might be worth checking. I think the standard of the fitters is pretty variable though, but I can fit myself.
If you are confident at fitting yourself try George at asda for cheap bras, they have great ones but hardly any are small enough in the back for me, often you need a smaller back size in there as they are quite generous, like with their clothes!0
