Have you considered a prepay visa card, doesnt require any credit checks etc and you just apply then pay the money on to it.

Doesn't it cost more to have a prepay card? Which is very un MSE like...
  • I have a pre pay card and it takes 5 days to get the money on it from my account and i dont get to the post office at all to do it. Its hassel to me that. My money cant even be paid on it! they say it can with wages but not with my benefits. And I have used it a few times in tesco only to get a call that because they sub me things and it costs more than i thought i dont have enough money and then they wont put things back and i dont get my shopping.

I called northern bank they are taking me for an app on monday , they have a personal access aco!!!! which suits me so i hope i get it as they have a maestro! lets hope i get that instead. If tesco dont take that i will kill them!

I recently opened a basic account with Northern (Personal Access). I booked an application interview via the freefone number (range me back 3 days later) and now I have my Maestro card and e-banking details. I do not work either.

They do not credit check you for this account. They only verify your ID electronically via the Electoral Roll and this is done during the call.

You should find these 2 thread interesting, you're not alone, and it's an ongoing problem with no end in sight I'm afraid.

  • Thanks for all the info in here! really impressed with the help and the info. I found more out in here in a day than weeks of banks and tesco.

Unfortunatly I am not on the electorial reg and i should be i know. So thats going to sink it I say,. I will look into getting oin that hopefully before they call me on monday.

My bro has informed me he has bad debt with the northern bank and its still in my address as he used to live here. So thats probably not going to help either. I could be stuck with co op and the unco operative visa debit card.

If you register now for the Electoral Roll it won't be until October when you are added. They may be able to check your ID if you have any other credit agreements. If this is a no-goer too you will be asked to take ID into your chosen branch.

Or Capital 1 and pay the balance off at the end of the month so you don't pay any interest.

Didn't Tesco used to to a pre paid credit card for shopping with them? Do they still do this?
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

  • Capital one turned me down, they send me a letter saying i was excepted and would get a card then withdrew it again? dont know why. Again pre pay is no good when i rarely get out and when i get paid i have to transfer and it takes days. Then it may not be enough on card and i dont get my shopping etc. Been there and been through all that hassel before. I have a gold card pre paid card. I dont use it anymore.
