I do not know where to post this if its in the wrong area please move it and and leave a trail.
I have had to use my dads maestro for a long time when shopping with tesco online. I cant use that anymore, tesco is also 22 miles from me and i have no card and have no time with a baby to get there so this is why I use home delivery, no one else does homedelivery in northern ireland in my area but them. So please uinderstand why I use tesco the eejets.
My card was a visa electron card which they never excepted, so i used dads card and had to transfer money every week to him which is a pain in the bum for him .
So my bank Co op took my cards and send me out a visa debit card, totally new card upgraded! I was chuffed as I knew tesco would take this.
only they dont  They will not take it! I spoke to bank they say thats a new card, different numbers and pin its not an electron and it should work. They gave this becasue I do use my debit card a lot and did complain tesco wanted me to upgrade.
I was on the phone every day trying to get them to unblock it? seems the unblock word they use dosnt even exist after they told me today there was nothing they could do about it. No one was doing anything the 3 previous people that said they where going to unblock must have been talking bull as nothing was done. Now my card according to the manager is not accepted and to call my bank and ask them to reg it? my bank hasnt a clue what they mean they said it should work and cant see their problem.
So now I am sat here having upgraded my card, my bank dosnt have any other cards but visa debit. I cant get a credit card nore do I want one and tesco have just basically told me to pee off. I spend a hell of a lot of money in there and thats what I get!
who do i complain to that wont just say sorry and actually do something about it?
what is their problem with visa debit cards?
why do they seem to dam powerless when I ask them the simplest thing?
I hate using them but asda is 26 miles from me and dosnt deliver either. They have no competition here at all.
anyone had this prob or know what their prob is?

It sounds like you have a visa debit card that requires full authorisation, almost exactly the same as an electron card. Believe me Tesco aren't to blame in this one, they are in the business of taking money from people, so if they could accept it they would.0

I have had words with my bank and they say different and that there is nothing they can do further. It is not an electron anymore. I want them to do this unblocking thing for me. They said they can unblock ones as sometimes the system dosnt recognise it? i wonder why i dont get that when i spends over £100 a week online with them???
is there anything I can do?0 -

is there anything I can do?Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -

Some bank crds can be 'unblocked' at an ATM. Go to nearest ATM and select pin services, then unblock pin.

there has been another thread on here which mentions this so you're not alone, It's not just a fault in NI. The other thread had a post which stated the Co-Op blamed Visa for not giving it full authorisation. Whether this is true or not I have no idea but seems like a cop out to me. I haven't bothered requesting an upgrade to my card as I'm fortunate enough to also have a full account with LLoydsTsb so have started moving everything away from Co op over to them. When its all sorted I will be closing my Co op account down.
It must be very frustating the situation you are in living so far out.
I wonder if enough people complained though, if they would do something about it.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p
It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted
I live in my head - I find it's safer there:p

It's something to do with the first 4 digits on your card. The electron had 4508, and the debit should have the same. This means its basically treated the same way as before.
Its just the image of a debit.0 -
I had a similar situation where my Lloyds American Express, which I usually use for online purchases, with no problem, however when Itried to use the card in a shop, it wouldn't work. Went into Lloyds to check if there was a problem - nope credit limit was fine. Tried again in another shop again refused, rang them up was told my account was correct, working and no reported faults. So I tried in another shop again refused so went into branch. Member of staff tried the card in their machine - again would not work, infact it wouldn't register as a card being put in the machine. They guessed that it could be a problem with the chip. So an order for a replacement card was made was told it would be about 5 working days so I was surprised when it arrived first thing next morning.
So it could be the actual chip on your card is faulty.0 -

I infer that the OP is talking about ordering shopping online. Therefore the chip working or not is irrelevant.0 -
Tesco said they blocked my card not my card is blocked. My card is fine.
I cant get a account anywhere with a debit card I tried and co op where the only ones that would take me. The loca banks turned me down as I am unemployed mum with a baby so i cant get a maestro in any bank I tried. I have basic accounbts i need a debit card for tesco and other things online and co op are the only ones that gave me something.
You have banks i cant go to like clydsdale and yorkshire as they ask you to come in and i cant as I am in nothern ireland. I have tried and tried I tell youits really rubbish i know.
I use card online so its not chip, I acvtually rarely use this in a shop as i do most my things online being out of the way and with a baby most the time.
I have been begging asda to deliver here for 2 years now and they say the same thing they wil note it. They take my cards I see on their sites.0 -
Northern Bank should give you a basic bank account and that comes with a Maestro card.0
