i dont think having separate accounts is what is being questioned. its more, about who pays for what in the relationship
If one person is doing better financially out of the partnership, then i cant see how the relationship can survive, unless the person with the lower income is happy to support someone who has more money than them
i cant think of any other situation where someone would be willing to do that, without resentment setting in
Flea
Exactly Flea, in a relationship where people have single accounts there is always going to be one person who has more than the other person.Nature wants the human race to survive. However, it does not depend on us because we are not its only invention.0 -

I earn less than OH at the moment, but I pay my fair share.
I do pay my car & car costs & personal bills out of that money, its not pocket money.0 -
Don't have a choice, I only earn 21K
*only* 21K  Thats a nice bit of spending money you've got there!!
We've had joint account since we bought our house together, just seemed way to complicated to have to work out how to split all the bills fairly.
I earn over double what DH does but it tends to be that my wage goes in and covers all the bills at the beginning of the month (mortgage/car/insurances etc) then his wage goes in the next week and we live off it for the rest of the month (food/shopping/clothes and rare nights out)
I have friends who work out everything down to the exact pound to make sure they contribute equally each month and then have their own money left over to spend as they wish. I remember my friend saying she would be able to go out one night (couples night out) but her husband couldn't as he couldn't afford it!!0 -
I would never have a joint account with anyone, ever, after having one with my ex husband.
I earned £13k, he earned nothing and he cleaned me out all the time taking money to go to football, clubbing etc. whilst I was struggling to pay the mortgage and bills.
Learnt my lesson there, now what I earn is mine and mine alone.0 -
