Omg !! how organised is that (hangs head in shame), Im usally running about the night b4 the birthday looking for a card lol
So do you buy them all at once beginning of the year ?
Also what do you all do for once a year things like Home ins, car ins, etc ?
I get all mine from the card factory for friends and always keep 4 or 5 spares for those last minute invites the kids seem to come home with for family I make them myself.
I find it usefull to keep a crisp box somewhere (bottom of wardrobe) and if i see bits that are cheap that would make good birthday presents for kids i buy them and put them in there no more worrying about not having the money to get presents for kiddies party's.
All household paperwork is filed I use the really useful filing box and anything I dont need to hand each year gets put in a box labelled and put in the loft.:jmember of the thrifty gifty 2011 :j0 -
Dairy diary kept by the phone in the kitchnen.
If it's not in the diary, then we don't do it.! I always say I'll ring to make arrangements/appointments, then put it in the diary straight away.
My three teens do the same - they've been trained! It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0 -
I swear by my HTC TyTn with its calendar, contact list, notes and task list. It syncs with Outlook at work so all my dates (job, family, personal) are in the same place and with me at all times. Some events (eg school books going back on Thursdays or family birthdays) that are recurrent can be programmed in so you automatically get reminders before the date.
We also have a cork board in the kitchen but it's more for the benefit of the husband, who does have a BlackBerry but hasn't mastered it yet
Would also recommend "Getting things done" by David Allen, it is supposed to be aimed at high-flying American executives but if you can get over that, it does have some good ideas (like listing absolutely everything you have to do and reviewing your coming week)Keep calm and carry on0 -
Large wall planner in the kitchen. I use one set of stickers to mark all the school holidays. Birthdays I use "star" stickers. All the appointments I just write on the chart. Then I can see at a glance what is coming up. I also use the calendar on my mobile phone as I always have my phone with me.
This has worked for me and organizing 3 children and husband and aged parents but I think everyone finds a system to suit themselves and their lifestyle as above posts show.0 -
I'm combining the following 2 things and it's great:
1) the 'getting things done' system - yes, David Allen's book same as previous poster, it's really magic
2) a wall calendar in the kitchen with big squares and space for everyone to write their things on - same as the earlier poster with the diary. The Flylady calendar (from the American Flylady) is excellent for this."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
Hi owens,
We have a wall calendar and a diary that helps us to keep sort of organised.
This website has some good ideas: organised home
And this earlier thread may help:Home Management notebooks/journals etc I'll add your thread to it later to keep the suggestions together.

Calender in the kitchen ,usually given to me by my DD who gets lots free from work, plus I have a small diary in my handbag.
As I go to a craft class once a fortnight I can never forget birthdays and usually am around three in front of myself making wise IYSWIM.
Christmas cards start getting made in Sepember, but at my age I don't start writing them out and stamping them until beginning of December as I have lots of friends of my age, and older who sadly may not be around next Christmas, one must be realistic if not practical:)0 -
having tried lots of diaries, calendars, notebooks that I'd forget to write in(!) I now use the diary and to do list on my email - wherever I am I can log in remotely.
Bills - pay almost everything from on-line accounts or direct debit and only have on-line bills - otherwise I'd just lose them!
Am very good at losing paperwork so important stuff that I don't need very often - washing machine guarantees, copies of passports - all get scanned in and stored on the computer. Stuff i might need more often gets scanned in and emailed to my web-based email so I can access it wherever.0 -
My dd uses a monthly calendar with space for each of the family, very useful when kids start having a social life of their own, birthday parties, sport events etc. I think she makes her own, but Flylady used to do something similar; its only on sale around the end/beginning of a year.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!
