Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for tues 11thAugust! It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning. You can see the sun? That's lucky! I can see grey cloud, black cloud and sometimes white cloud.

Last day at work before I take 5 days off. Strategic planning means I have plenty of August to enjoy the sun:rotfl:.

Spent the day working on stolen tortoises If you see any let me know.

Busy week ahead, with office BBQ at my house, daughters 14th birthday, trip to the St Agnes steam rally, and a fishing trip. Just need some sun.

    Have a good day

    Morning everyone.

N9eav - how on earth do you steal a 7 stone tortoise with no one noticing!!! Is the sanctuary isolated?

Not much going on here today. Will be seeing my neice and nephew later as they are similar ages to my own kids and they like to play together. Might go to the park IF its dry. If its not then no idea what we'll do with them.
Trying to get stuff washed, dried and ironed in time for Saturday and Holiday Part Deux. Got my Flylady list to stick to if I get the chance today.

Would like to bake some more hobnobs too if I get the chance. My poor waistline won't thank me though - just too moreish ;)

Cut two more heads of cauliflower yesterday and gave them to my mum to eat. Had to pull out two plants as they were wilting and it would appear that their root system isn't very good. Not sure if thats down to cabbage root fly or what. Haven't composted in my home compost just in case. Could have been me being heavy handed with the watering and loosening the roots with too big a stream of water. Anyway they'd provided me with a nice head of cauli each any way so it wasn't a total loss.

Off to read Flylady and rest of yesterdays thread.
Hugs to all that need them.
Have a good day all OS or not.

    Hi all.

N9eav - I hope the tortoises turn up. And the sun!

It's a lovely start to the day here and the forecast is good.

I have a day to myself today. Yesterday I was a plumber's mate helping DH to sort out some leaking taps - it was such fun (yawn, yawn!).

We visited our new doctor yesterday. He was very nice and very French so, luckily, I had written all our details out and translated them into French before we got there, so all he had to do was copy them out! We had a basic check and were given prescriptions to collect vaccine for tetanus, polio, diptheria and whooping cough (or coquelosh, the doctor called it!). We pick the vaccine up from the pharmacy then go back to the doctor for the painful bit. We'll do that after we come back from the UK.

Still no news from DS2 and DIL - baby is due on Saturday, and we shall leave here as soon as we get 'the' phone call! I'm really looking forward to the whole trip; obviously, I can't wait to see the new baby, but I also can't wait to see everyone else. It's over four months since I've seen them all (apart from on Skype, for which I am eternally grateful), so lots of cuddles all round. I've warned DGS 9yo that he will have to put up with lots of kisses and cuddles!

Anyway, OS today is dusting, hoovering and washing the floors. I don't have to cook tonight because we are helping our friends who have a fish and chip van. It will be in a village close to us, they already have fifty customers who have phoned to say they'll be coming, so DH and I are taking the orders. Should be fun; it's right outside a beautiful bar right next to a stunning river, and petanque and basketball have been laid on. It's the first time they've had the van there; it took ages to get permission but, if it does well, they'll carry on doing every other Tuesday and will take me on as their waitress. So, dinner tonight is fish and chips!

Anyway, I hope everyone is well. I have been MIA for the last few days so have no idea what's been going on.

Hope you are all well and that the sun shines all over the UK.

  • Morning all,

where is the time going??? I only seem to be making it on here once every few days - I'm busier now I'm "off" than when I was at Uni!

So belated birthday/anniversary wishes to anyone I have missed & (((hugs))) for those feeling poorly/down or having tough times...

Had a lovely day over in Bognor Sunday, spending time with my little sis & went to a country fair at a big (lovely) park there - took our own picnic too (in my proper picnic hamper :) ), rather than just buying whatever when we got there.

Spent Saturday having a good sort out of stuff for the charity shop - now have the bags all lined up in the hall to take. Also went through all my craft stuff & have loads to put on ebay & make some xmas fund money....

Decided too that I am going to sell my Panasonic BM as I simply don't use it (and now I'm trying to lose weight I am not eating much bread as I have no self-control, lol). Debating whether to ebay that or just try the local Friday-Ad (as postage adds so much to ebay otherwise). Any suggestions?

I also need to buy a small chest freezer, so that I can start to batch-cook a bit more, with only a month or so to go until I start my new job, I want to be organised beforehand.... Today I must meal-plan for the week, but struggling with inspiration at the moment, so will have a look at the meal-plan threads I think.

Had a look at the new shabby chic thread too & thought "mmmmm ooohh" lots of times, lol!!! I quite fancy making some bunting to hang up in my kitchen (once I've painted it....). I bought a 79p cork noticeboard yesterday, and some cup-hooks - I am going to paint/decorate it & fix the hooks on as I need a new keyrack, but it will be a good place to put notes to the kids/shopping lists, etc.

Anyhow, enough waffling from me - have a good day all. xx

    Good morning guys,

The sun is peeking through and as the forecast is for dry weather I am going on back to the fences today.Sunday I managed to finish the patio set and wash the parasol thingy but all came to a stop late afternoon when LO suddenly threw a high temp of 102 and then proceeded to complain of headache, sore eyes, sore runny nose, and stomach cramps that were leaving him doubled up and crying.

I got his temp down a degree with calpol and sat up with him through the night while he was very restless. Yesterday morning still the same and I thought ok time for the GP and he complained again about his stomach and promptly threw up all over the settee. Within half an hour of this his temp was gone and the pain gone and he was heading back for normal. By teatime he was demanding crisps and chocolate (no chance) and completely back to normal. I've never seen anything like it  Anyway he is full of beans today - I just hope no one else goes down with it.

Lunch today will be baked pots and beans and tea will be a beef curry with rice and I will have a go at making some onion bajhees (sp) when I have hunted out a recepie.

Have a good day all and hugs to anyone in need.
Pen-pin - I hope you are ok hun. xxx
Haribo - No hun, I did pm the offending party.

    Morning :hello:

Bit dull here this morning, still very muggy though, could'nt sleep last night it was so hot

Had a good day yesterday in Tewkesbury, weather was'nt too bad dry though, until we got on the M5 coming back.

There must have been a Mini Rally somewhere as well, we passed dozens of them on the way down, going along in a sort of convoy, and something I had never seen before a mini towing a caravan, not a normal caravan though it was a really small Mini sized one.

WM on so will put that out under the back cover before I go over to Mums with the shopping,
Something out of the freezer for dinner tonight, I really need to get it emptied and cleaned out so I can re-stock before the girls come next weekend,

Hope everyone is ok havent read through yesterdays yet back later

Squiggly - if you want to get some pennies for your Panasonic on eBay, perhaps you could say 'buyer collects'. If you look here http://www.localbargainfinder.co.uk/ it lists eBay items by post code so you could well find a buyer who is willing to collect it.

I know what you mean about being busy. Here I am in France with DH out at work from 8am to 7pm, in a very quiet spot with barely any interruptions to my day and limited shops (compared to the UK!), only half the house completed so not as much cleaning as usual, just two of us here, and I still find the time runs away from me! My DIL1's Mum is retired now and often says she doesn't know how she found the time to go work! I have three jobs I do online - when I can motivate myself and not get distracted by other things - but I should still have loads of spare time. Take heart, though, because you sound as if you are achieving lots so your time 'off' is not wasted!

Talking of bunting, one of the knitters on the Knit Your Square thread has invented knitted bunting which she puts children's names on. They look really effective - I have loads on my list of things to make for Christmas, but where will I find the time?!
