Double bed or two singles?

Instead of using loads of pillows, try the Dream Genii which is just the one pillow that supports you in all the right places and costs about £35. It's a maternity pillow but I find it equally as good for a bad back.
Or if you want to splash out, I can highly recommend the Tempur bed, the mattress moulds to your own shape and I found that DH and I barely move at all once we are in bed as it is so comfortable. You don't need any extra pillows at all and my back has never felt better.
Oh and I agree with the two duvet suggestions too!0 -
My partner and I have separate rooms!!!
A combination of his late nights and his groaning and leg twitching and, allegedly, a little tiny bit of snoring from me, made us decide it was better for us and helped us both get a good nights sleep. We do "visit" occasionallyWe don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -

It really does make a difference yes.0 -
i went from a kingsize to a double bed and cant wait to go back to a kingsize bed. we have the duvet issue as well and we get round that by using a king size duvet on a double bed and a superkingsize on a kingsize bed.
get a kingsize if it will fit as there is plenty of room compared to a double bed.Debt free 3 years early :j
Savings for house deposit - very healthy
Cash back earnt so far £14.570 -
Is the problem the size of the bed or the size of the duvets? I would have thought a slightly larger bed (maybe 5ft wide?) and individual duvets would be the answer.
(Oh and I also sleep with a pillow between my knees, because I don't like to have my kneecaps grinding together during the night).0 -

Exactly what I was thinking. I have a big V pillow, & it's been my friend through 3 pregnancies, & I'm not getting rid of it now!As it's filled with lots of tiny little beads, it moulds to whatever shape you want, much better than 3 pillows. I's also recommend a memory foam mattress, but there are many good, & much cheaper, brands than Tempur.

Well, personally I would never want to sleep in a separate bed from my hubby. We had to do this on 2 holidays (both boat trips with cabins with 2 singles) and hated it. I just can't sleep properly in a single, and definitely sleep best with him, and he with me (I hated working away for this reason). At the moment, even though we're neither of us small, we have a standard double, with a kingsize quilt. Although being PG I am wondering if we really need a bigger bed before too long!
Friends of ours (in their 40's) have only recently had their 1st double bed despite being married many years - they both used to work shifts and decided from the start that it would be too disturbing to have a double bed!The best advice you can give your children: "Take responsibility for your own actions...and always Read the Small Print!"

Double bed with a King size quilt. Would never consider seperate beds and was horrified when a doctor suggested it as a solution when my husband was having bad night terrors!Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

We've had a superking for about 5 years and love it. I got it because I had a bad back and needed a firmer matress than my OH. We got it from Argos and it's two singles zipped together. I put a kingsize quilt under the matress cover and you really cannot feel the join (except that his side is more 'squashy' than mine). There's plenting of room for movement and if you lack the warmth of OH, all you have to do is cuddle up together - you're only at the other side of the bed, not the room! LOL
OH had lots of chest/breathing problems and had to have loads of pillows to help him sleep better, which it did, but it never bothered me in the slightest as I had my 'own' bed to sleep in.
After sharing a double on holiday and then having work done in our bedroom and having to sleep in a double bed I've not been able to sleep properly, but back to my own bed and I'm loath to get up!
I once was told that as you sleep almost 1/3rd of your life in bed, you had to get the best one available, and as big as possible.
BTW I bought two single duvets and stitched poppers down each of them to join together to make a superkingsize quilt. It made it quite cheap and easier to wash in a machine. I've also unpicked a side seam and stiched single quilt covers together to match to get a supersize quilt cover.0 -
we're another couple (40's) who have two single beds joined to make one super king sized. This means we have 3ft space each, and separate duvets (I have a double, he has a single). And plenty of cuddling goes on:D but I do need plenty of space to actually sleep.
Started historically becasue we had a bedsitting room in our own house so we could let out a room, so got a 3ft single bed that stores another single underneath that we put up every night. We bought super king size undersheet & matt protector and that keeps the two beds together so no separation in the night.
Margaret - quick question re the 'under' quilt to cover the join - our bottom fitted sheet would struggle to stay on with that extra bit of padding I think: do you have a problem?I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0
