It was a take it or leave it deal as we are able to proceed today or we go elsewhere.
he ended up with an interest rate of around 6% in january 07 which was half the rate they were wanting to charge him first of all. we looked online to see comparitive loan costs so we had an idea of what he could get. also make sure you take out gap insurance for a car of that value as you dont want to be stuck paying out for the finance if it gets written off.
we bought at 18month old avensis for 12K and were paying back £15K in total over the 5 years plus gap insuance which was a one off payment seperate from the finance agreement. its paid off now which is good as we were paying £256 a month.
I normally think insurance is SXXTE but GAP insurance is brilliant.0 -
What I don't understand is why asking a simple question on MSE becomes so off topic, posters decide to wade in with unwanted advice. She wanted advice on a loan not on a choice of cars. Calling her boyfriend names and criticising the OP for not listening to the unrequested and sometimes abusive opinions is just shy of bullying behaviour.
First off "Be nice to all moneysavers" has gone out the window. Secondly, not everyone wants something considered "sensible". I think the OP *is* being sensible asking for advice on getting a cheaper loan - that's the MSE way surely. She posted in the Loans forums, not the Arms or DT.
Please - stick to the topic unless the OP is asking for something illegal/immoral.
Incidentally, I would have advised her to start http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards/ where Martin covers cheap loans and check her BF's credit score then see if anything cheaper is listed in the first few pages of the Loans forum.0 -

The decision has been questioned a hundred times over in this thread fair enough at first but its getting boring now!
The questioning has also turned into b1tching, name calling and what could also be deemed bullying.0 -
Id like to point out that its all about what person likes individually. Someone here might have paid £5000 for a ford focus. I'd not want one. Someone might have bought a vw polo for £7000 or a people carrier for £6000. Its up to them what they buy and we all have our own personal preferences. Theres no actual need to buy a new car but people do and always have done.
Incidently people deeming Seat not worthy of paying that much, its just a VW with a different badge on, its all the same parts and probably the same engine as the golf or near enough.
If I was buying a car for £11k and it was new Id want to keep it for a long time otherwise theres not much point, but its down to the person.
Its all about opinions and I gave mine too, I think the suggestion of an ancient m3 is a bit silly since they look really old fashioned the old ones. (I meant a newer one for £10k region)
Im sure the original poster doesnt care really. Its all about what car you like and are happy with. I only like about 4 car designs and Im sure everyone else is the same.0 -
Wow ! How does one go about "saving" 21K being a student ?0

:rotfl:Now what we are all forgettting is the fact that he wants a YELLOW car so a SEAT it has to be.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Havent seen a yellow BMW or Focus Rs or anything remotely nice in YELLOW!!1:rotfl::rotfl:
This thread has amused me for days and days.lol:T
I believe you can get a Focus in Tango Orange or Lime Green, but maybe this would be too much of a compramise????"We act as though comfort and luxury are the chief requirements of life, when all that we need to make us happy is something to be enthusiastic about” – Albert Einstein0 -

Seats are excellent Cars that are mainly VW Golfs but also share many parts with Audis. The exterior styling is nicer but the trade off is that the interiors are a bit cheap and bland.
Basically they are a good money savers choice if you do want a new Car.
Having read through the thread I am really disappointed with the way that a query was received on here. I see this site as a way of helping people save money on things that they want, whether that be gas bills or Cars. If someone wants to spend £20k on a Car then thats their choice and we should offer advice on getting it as cheap as possible.0
