haven't read the rest of the thread, but I agree with some of this absolute bounder. Its nice to have some coomon ground. However, its also common for people to stop giving a damn when they are depressed, and making the effot to get up nd get dressed and feel less depresed about appearance can be useful. I do not suffer from depressing but close family do: I've come to recognise the slipping in personal presentation as an indicator of how they are feeling. I feel the ''fashion'' emphasis rther than the comments I made when this conflict seemed to begin, that an emphasis could be added on MS well turned out, repirs, home beauty: what we can do daily to look better for less. I also feel that how we present ourselves can make a ifference, albeit that a sad reflection on society, on how succesful we are, in job interviews, in keeping a job, etc etc nd simply in life: as such, as well a being lifestyle enhancing, looking good can indeed be Money saving.

I also agree, with gottochange (though the irony of the name in these threads alwys tickles me) that we don't need daily short threds, which is why I keep chippingin to suugeest a longer, but ess frequebt weekly thread. :o I think this would show some comprimise from us, and need not interfere with th wa we post daily. :)

Not to ignore the rest of what you're saying - but have to say here ; "Well, that took a long time coming". The user name certainly pre-dates this carry-on and is in refelection of my previous incarnation.

One of the ways in which I (my life, more to the point) had to change was from being a doormat and shrinking violet; enough said I think.

    :D
  • Sorry but that is the most ridiculous bit of nit picking I've seen.
No board existed for these sorts of clothes threads, it started on OS, moved to Marriage and Relationships and then to H&B. If clothes and fashion aren't in some way related to "beauty" then I don't l know what is.
The relationship is very strained. Would sticking safety pins through your nose be seen as beauty. fashion is an adornment and not always a positive one.
The guy below might think he is fashionable but whether he is beautiful is dubious.

Beauty is is something we see on a long term basis fashion is short lived. Other posters are commenting on shoulder pads being horrible but they were the height of fashion some years ago. maralyn monroe has stayed beautiful throughout these fashion changes.
So in other words fashion has little to do with beauty or health
Who I am is not important. What I do is.

    *sigh*

I am not nit-picking. The fact is that the threads started on the H&B board - after not having worked out elsewhere. THEN the request was made that they be a little more streamlined and organised - result was that Fashion was incorporated into the title. I am NOT saying that they don't belong here - just that they not take over.

I do wonder though about the definition of Fashion...

With all due respect Bounder that is your opinion (although I will agree fashion is not related to health).
The difference to me is many of these threads aren't really about fashion but about clothes and combining them to make the most out the existing wardrobe. this is how the threads started originally on OS and well within the moneysaving ethos.

With regards to "beauty" I thought this aspect was about taking care on ones skin, body, using make up etc and not about what is beautiful so whether the pic of the chap you posted is beautiful or not is really irrelevant.

I appreciate you don't like fashion and the double edged sword it presents but some of your comments I've read have been totally unnecessary. Those sort of comments (suggesting someone didn't look "professional" enough for work) were totally uncalled for and I wonder how people would have reacted if I've posted on the depression thread something along the lines of "stop being so self absorbed and get over yourself". Snide remarks really have no place, if you don't like the thread then you don't have to read it.

But I don't see the point of mentioning it?
The threads don't take over. These boards are pretty fluid and change regularly.

No-one has ever wanted the fashion thread (s?) to not exist - however, they did start appearing on the Health & Beauty board BEFORE the title was amended.

Maybe people aren't aware of the original posts, way back on the OS board, which were moved by the Board Guides to here, BEFORE the name was amended.

Out of 20 threads appearing on the front page of this board only 5 are relating to the daily fashion thread. Two of these could be merged (and don't know why they haven't been) because one was a duplicate made in error. One is a discussion about the issues these threads keep raising and this one which is still bouncing because we are discussing on it also. One is about inspirational links.
Can anyone tell me how this is tsking over? At least 3 of these threads wouldn't be in existence if there weren't problems with the threads in the first place.........

I am talking about previously and why I (for what it matters for goodness' sake) had any issue.

Well if I am missing the point it's not my fault - it must be because you are presenting it so poorly ;)

[STRIKE]If anything that I have said is[/STRIKE] deemed to be bullying, then those who see it that way must have led very sheltered lives.

I would not say that I have led a sheltered life - when bullied out of a secure job by my line manager (before taking them succesfully to an ET for constructive dismissal) the derogatory comments, insidious sniping & backbiting is how it started.
