ab, i beleive that the way you feel about yourself shows with the way you take care of yourself. Having suffered from PND after the birth of my daughter, for me personally the lack of interest of the way i looked was an outward expression of the way i felt. Even now nearly 7 years on, when i wear crapppy clothes, i feel like !!!!!!. Clothes make me feel good, the whole grooming thing does too.
That's why i was a bit peed that you would come on here and take the p1ss outta people. You don't know these people personally, so to say such unkind things was a bit harsh. You don't know the effect what you have had on someone, a small comment can really tip a vunerable person, i know i have been there.
The whole fashion thing is also tounge in cheek. I for one am no follower of fashion, i wear clothes that make me feel good as do a lot of people on here do. I am the most unmaterialistic person i know, i don't care for aquiring possensions (those who know me, i am a true minimilist) The whole thread started with my capsule to show how i tworked and that you don't need a lot of clothes to look and feel good. It has evolved as it is today. There is a very diverse sort of people on here showing how we are all individuals. It's unfair of you to pigeon hole everyone beacause they are wearing something from primark.
The pictures won't happen, espically due to your comment made on poorly scammos thread. It was inappropiate, i know you say she was from the arms and could take it, but i didn't know that as a few others didn't either. I do however have photos of my clothes on clothes old style.
I have noticed a few regulars not posting, gymfiend, kaz, spain shopper, to name but a few. I do hope it's not due to the friction on here.
We have requested our own board on several occasions, but the powers that be have not allowed it. It is them you should be bombarding, not us. Please, please if you have any negative comments please refrain from posting them, you do not know the effect you may have. I know your a decent, sensitive person:D anyhow you outfit sounds cool, do you feel good in it????
anyhow, wearing my gap wrap dress, gladiators and no accesories:o. Not been over the door today as having a 'domestic day'

How frustrating that this harmless topic is being ruined by people trying to preach their values on others. I don't see it anywhere else on the forum and its bullying as far as I can see.
If the posters on here want to talk about fashion and what they are wearing then nobody should interfere with that. As for implying that fashion causes depression - this board cheers me up (usually) and I think others would agree that the usual sense of community and well wishes and positivity have a good impact on our lives.
I am also annoyed that there are still many naive people who think fashion is worthless. As an undergraduate studying Writing, Fashion and Culture I am educated to say that fashion has a vast cultural value and has done since time began. We can document the past from the clothes people wore, fashion helps art historians date paintings more easily and specifically, fashion is an integral part of our culture giving people freedom/hope/happiness and most importantly identity. Not to mention the industry employs millions of people across the world.
If you would like some further reading then may I direct you to the following books:
Barnard, Malcolm (1996/2002) Fashion as Communication (Second Edition), London: Routledge
Entwistle, Joanne (2000) The Fashioned Body: Fashion, Dress and Modern Social Theory, London: Polity
Bruzzi, Stella & Church Gibson, Pamela (eds.) (2000) Fashion Cultures: Theories, Explorations and Analysis, London: Routledge
I would advise you take your issues higher and leave us be, I don't see anyone else complaining and I was always taught that if you have nothing constructive to say, don't say anything at all.
As for my outfit today I'm wearing my maxi dress and stonewashed denim jacket with brown gladiator sandals....SPC5 #1651 total so far: £78.590 -
Who says you aren't allowed?? Anyone & everyone are welcome!
It's when you say "I'm not going to post anymore" and then proceed to post several more times that confuses the whatever out of us!! :rotfl:
It is largely to myself that I say I shouldn't be allowed; although with some of the remarks I have made, I am sure that, if it were possible to exclude someone, then that would happen (and fair enough). I have actually tried not to say categorically that I wouldn't post again - for the precise reason that you state.... I can't stop myself/mouth running away with me etc. etc
The problem is (and yes, this shall be directed to the appropriate bodies) that, at first, the fashion threads - and there were many - were in danger of overwhelming the Health & Beauty sub-forum in a previously unseen way. It seemed that the choice of a pair of socks (OK, slight exaggeration) would warrant a new thread - and the thread starters were usually the same group of people. I have been a member of this forum for quite some time (in a different incarnation previously) and I have always been drawn to this sub-forum; it's focus-shift bothered me - and I'm afraid I said so....
It is fair comment to say that I should go elsewhere but like a moth to a flame, I have continued to read the daily (*sigh*) threads about what folk were wearing. No, I would never contribute - I live far too simple a life to bother with recording what I am wearing or doing (and the rest.....i.e. OH's wardrobe, my make up, jewellery or hairstyle; I could go on) and, as absolute bounder quite rightly says, reading (like the masochist I am) about everyone else can quite possibly fuel depression, envy or feelings of inferiority. I would not in the real world spend too much time around people who talk about themselves endlessly - I have no idea why I think it's OK on the internet?
The fact remains that I - personally - think they can (for SOME people - and quite the opposite for others, I'm sure) be unhealthy; I have already said that I find it strangely self-absorbed and also wonder why people with fabulous lives actually want to take the time to sit in front of a screen and tell anonymous people what they are wearing, going to wear, have worn, what it cost and where it was from.
I AM bowing out now - I have managed to stop myself reading this thread quite so intently, which proves that I can stay away and not be such a b***h (which is as unhealthy for me as it is for anyone else).
Good wishes; from now, I promise to keep my thoughts to myself.

gottochange, but previously you were complaining about the chatter, now it seems you object to reading about what people are wearing. You have indeed contributed enormously to the chatter, and i really don't know why you continue to object, change happens, just because there is now a fashion element doesn't mean that there are fewer health and beauty related topics, you can just read what interests you and filter out anything that doesn't.
The daily thread is where people can contribite stuff that doesn't warrant a thread of it's own. There may be other people that object, but i'm sure they have refrained from posting.
Anyhow, i accept you 'bowing out' and wish you well too.

Actually it's called not agreeing. Bullying is far far FAR more serious than anything that has happened on here.
Nothing to do with preaching values either - just having a different opinion.

Now I am intrigued....how do you get a horse into a bath?
I'm sure you don't really want the answer - and besides -
1)I'm still here -
2)Still posting(!) - and
3)"Chattering"
Anyway - much length of hose pipe will be involved - as my horse is the equine equivalent of those oldies on the Stannah adverts, he would need an OAP's bath, so sponges, buckets, hosepipe will be involved - and (wait for this) - I shall be wearing -
- a navy blue boilersuit and my oldest trainers (all water related activities involve me getting wetter than the beast).
Look at that; in the end, I have posted what I will be wearing.
(Muffled chomping noises as I eat my words.)0 -
I don't think any of us claim to have fabulous lives. We're just normal people who like discussing clothing. If any of my posts made someone feel inferior, jealous or envious, I'd be surprised - I wear cheap clothes, do regular, boring things and have rather a lot of spare time.
If anything I've said has affected anyone else (in a negative way) I'd be gutted - my intention is really NOT to boast or show off. I find this particular sub-board lighthearted and perfect for those in between times at work.
Anyway, I've been away this weekend and have obviously missed the action! I am exhausted, so wearing a huge baggy vest and leggings. Too hot to be bothered!
Hope you all had nice weekends.0 -

To an extent I agree

This is what i call a toxic anchor where you have anchored the outward expression of how others see you to feeling good. i hope it doesent but this can trigger depression again.

Vulnerable people shouldnt really be on a forum where the only part of the communication you get is the words and without hearing tonality and seeing body language you cant really tell their true meaning

There is a photo of me wearing a primark shirt on MSE. my good one had an accident just as I was going off to somerset and primark was the nearest place that sold a white shirt.

Piccies would be better. scammo knows the score and can hold her own with anyone
