Well I must be scum to Super Dad :rotfl:

I had two contracts with Orange Both of them 12 months into an 18 month contract, I cancelled both and sold the two phones for £90.00 each.

I have since got two new contracts back with Orange who didn't seem to mind to have me back, but on better terms than the previous contracts. Got two new Nokia 5800 phones and two free gifts Playstation 3's which once I sell the on ebay will nett me £400.00.

So thanks to Orange's mishap I am £490.00 better off, got two new contracts which are on better terms and have two new phones which will sell for £100.00 each in 12 months when I upgrade for new phones. In times like these I wouldn't blame anyone for making some extra cash.
    :rotfl::rotfl:

The guy i spoke to the other night pratically told me to do that! So i did.

"If u shop around you will see there are lots of offers arouns with free gifts like ps3's, tv's etc if u come back to orange" His words
  • I have just phoned orange to cancel and was told that they have now decided no to go ahead with the increase, so you can no longer cancel.

Reading through all this, the thing that strikes me is that Orange could not have increased the prices for existing customers and just written it into the new contracts as part of the new T+C's as customers renewed and joined. They took a calculated gamble that they would be able to extract more revenue and less people would cancel than the extra revenue they would gain due to ignorance of their own consumer rights.

The fact they have backed down is vindication for sites like MSE and shows big corporations they should take consumer rights more seriously. The only way they will learn is if they are hurt financially.

Here are some facts about orange

"On 21 March 21, 2007, Watchdog, a television series by the BBC focusing on consumer protection, published the results from a Broadband survey they held. According to the survey Orange is the worst ISP in the UK. 68% of Orange customers that took part in the survey said they were unsatisfied with Orange's Customer Service, Orange was voted as the most unreliable broadband provider, Orange had the highest number of dissatisfied customers and two thirds of Orange customers experienced problems cancelling their Orange broadband. [24]
A consumer organization forum web site known as OrangeProblems focuses on the poor level of service provided by Orange Broadband in the UK. Initially set up as WanadooProblems.co.uk, the site focuses on the infamous Orange Local Loop Unbundling and poor Customer service but covers a wider range of Orange operations.
Orange Mobile has been criticised during a Channel 4 News investigation for a lack of security which potentially exposed customer records to fraud

In August 2007, Orange was criticized for summarily deleting email accounts tied to old Freeserve and Wanadoo pay-as-you-go dial-up accounts with no warning. [30]

In August 2008, after well publicized problems with iPhone 3G performances, customers compared their download speed and discovered that Orange in France was capping 3G download bandwidth. Orange admitted capping to 384kbit/s, way below the theoretic 7.2Mbit/s provided by the iPhone. [31][32]
However, in spite of the troubles in the UK, it is the contrary on the Continent ; thus, Orange Internet and Mobile is well known in France to be the most efficient and reliable provider for mobile coverage

In June 2008 Alex Singleton of the Daily Telegraph lambasted Orange's customer service[2]:
"The hatred that large numbers of Orange customers have towards their network is mostly France Telecom's fault. The French firm utterly wrecked the company it bought. Internet forums are now full of angry customers who have been billed incorrectly or otherwise wronged, and who have found ringing Orange to complain a horrible experience."

Also - if you look all over this forum, there's plenty of examples of Orange misinforming consumers of their rights thereby contravening Ofcom and OFT regulations.

I just don't see why i should feel bad for exercising my rights. If the shoe were on the other foot - its clear what a big corporation would do. To say "legally stealing" is an obvious ludicrous because stealing is the removal of goods or services unlawfully.
