  • what and where is everyone studying then?

i'm doing BDes design at liverpool hope. moving over from manchester in just under a month's time. eeeeek! have suddenly realised the sheer amount of stuff i have to organise to take with me or throw away. i'm so excited to be starting uni though!

the only thing i regret about waiting till now to go, is that pretty much all my friends graduated years ago and now have 'proper' jobs, but they tell me they're quite jealous of me going to uni so i expect they'll be nipping over and reliving the student lifestyle with me!

Grrenwich looks gorgeous. Did a visit with my son there this summer and he's set his heart on a place there-and I'm very tempted to go back and finish my incomplete degree there too

:D Greenwich is a beautiful town. I already live just a couple of miles away so I've already taken advantage of the free museums, the markets and the huge, gorgeous park.

The University building itself is beautiful, and everyone I know who went there managed to forge successful careers and lovely lifestyles for themselves.

For some reason though (and personally I don't give a rat's behind) it ranks as one of the lowest in the University league tables, and it's an ex-polytechnic, so if your son's one of these swotty types who managed to get As and Bs at college he might want to consider going somewhere more like Kings College or Imperial; both still in London.

    Hi everyone,
YES I am looking forward to starting uni in September!

I umm'd and ahh'd about whether to apply for uni or not, kept putting it off telling myself they wouldn't still be taking applications for this year (this was back in May)..till one day I finally picked up the phone, rang the uni admissions office and asked if they were still accepting applications for the course I wanted to do and they said yes. I haven't looked back since then! I whizzed through my application, stayed up all night doing my personal statement and pestered someone to write my reference in a short space of time. Didn't hear anything for what felt like an age then I received a letter asking me to come for an interview the next day...had a great interview and the next morning my offer was on UCAS Track! When I proceeded to dance my way into work and tell them I'd be leaving them in September lol!

I just cannot see a downside to going to uni now I have everything worked out. I have two children, aged 2 and 1 who of course I am going to miss but they are going to be coming with me to uni everyday and going into the nursery just round the corner. I got talking to a lovely girl at the interview who then found me on yougofurther and we added each other on Facebook and have got to know each other, she has two children of similar ages who will be going to the same nursery :T really feels good to know there will be a friendly face at uni from day 1!

Oh and just to add to the 'mature student' discussion, I'm 25 and although very young at heart I really do feel very mature compared to how I did when I was 18 lol
    Best of luck everybody!

I'm not very good at succinct. Why say something in 10 words when 100 will do?

  • Hey All  I go back to Uni for my 2nd year in September, although lectures dont really properly start till October ! Feel like ive had about 6 months off. Cannot wait, enjoyed 1st year but 2nd year should be even better .

I'm 18, went straight to Uni from school when i was 17, & in my opinion a mature student is about 30+. I admit i went to uni thinking everyone would be my age, but they weren't, only about half were under 20, the rest being so called 'mature' !

Was just wondering how the finances for Uni in England worked ? You guys have to pay tuition fees right ? In Scotland SAAS pay for everyones & someone told me England doesn't have this ? Think you guys get bigger student loans to deal with it ?

P.s - All the so called 'mature' students i met last year were a great laugh ! Never met one that wasn't happy to be flung amongst us young'uns ;)
Whats meant to be will always find its way...;)

Yeah, we get 2 loans - one that we never see and goes straight from the Student Loans Company to the University, and the other one for maintainence =)

I agree to a certain extent about the 'mature' students (I was *just* off qualifying- gutted!), but my 26 year-old male friend wasn't exactly thrilled to be put in a flat with 3 obnoxious, loud, 18 year old girls

It's so true though that the whole 'Age=Superiority' thing that's drummed into you from reception onwards disintegrates at uni =)

I'm starting a Primary Teaching degree at the University of Worcester this September. Can't wait! I'll be a mature student at 23. We're moving to Worcester at the end of this month so I'll be settled in by the time my course starts and freshers week starts.
I am starting Worcester Uni in sept. I'll be 22 then. After three years of working since college i think it will be hard to get back into for a bit. good luck for everyone starting soon x:D

I'll be in my fifth year there in September (part time), so feel free to pm if you want any help/tips with anything. :D

Hey cool thread. I am really excited, enrolling in lancaster for a part time phd at the end of September. I live a few hours away so won't be the same experience as before, but still a lot of fun I'm sure!
