I've spent a little time looking up the actual model, believe it or not the information is there in the aldi advert. It is a campingaz eldorado 2. I've looked on their site (https://www.campingaz.com look under 'traditional gas barbecues) they do an eldorado 2 super & eldorado 2 compact. The aldi one looks like the super but isn't green. It might be an older model - hey if so who cares as long as it does the job. I think I'll be there on thursday
Quick question for you gas barbecue experts - what does the lava rock do? I'm guessing it diffuses the flame & maybe adds something to the overall effect/flavour. Cheers for any replies.
Quick google search: http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=campingaz+eldorado&btnG=Search&meta=desrever sthgir lla0 -
Your right - about it diffusing the heat or what ever.
The gas heats the lava rock - and its the heat from the rocks that cooks the food. So you let it heat up good an proper BEFORE putting and food on.0 -
Unbelievable - someone has alread got 2 on ebay for £90 delivered; they've even screen-grabbed the aldi advert. Call me cynical, but do they work there/know someone who does? Must be certain that they are going to get what they are advertising.

You gotta hand it to them!!0

Its a bit daft to spend big money on a big yank BBQ and then decide thats not what you want - you must be on the wrong forum - where is the money saving in that? Thanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0 -
I actually got it second hand. It was nearly brand new came with the bottle regulator and rocks. I only paid £40, yes £40 for the lot so that is proper money saving! It would cost that just for the gas and bottle. The bloke who was selling was having a house clearence as he was off to America to live and it was the middle of december so nobody was interested, a bit of foresight is everything!
Seriously though i know of about 10 friends who are all looking for charcoal bbq's so if anyone has any other advice on whats good and that it would be helpfull. Sorry Mercury, I meant to put in the winner for the charcoal grills but forgot!
This is from the guardian's article:-
"Best on test is the European Outdoor Chef, a kettle model with a circular grill. However, at £159 online, it's no cheaper than the gas models. The grill and warming rack won't fit in a dishwasher or bucket, so it's tricky to clean.
The cheaper Argos Deluxe Oval Trolley costs £70 It's easy to move around, but the grill is also too big for dishwasher or bucket cleaning."
Not a huge help as the majority of the article was on gas versions...
