I bought this 2 years ago and it is brilliant.

But remember you have to get a gas bottle for it. And the deposit for a gas bottle is £40.

We got one 2 years ago and it is a little bottle. And most nights we have a bbq when it is summer.

I would say buy. Good sturdy and a good bbq

Ialso bought the BBQ from Aldi 2 years ago and it has been great highly recommended.

However the one I got while looking identical (except for wooden shelves) is made by Lindleman or something like that not the one they are listing now.

Couple of other points - you can avoid having to stump up the £40 deposit for a gas bottle - just by looking around for dumped or abandoned gas bottles on areas of waste ground - building sites etc. Obviously I am not advocating stealing them.

Finally - charcoal will result in the best authentic BBQ taste to food. But its a lot more hassle to prepare and clean etc. We have had lots of BBQs on our Aldi gas unit and no complaints

Yeah it not bad at all, a lot easier and less fiddly, and you can get different types of lava rock impregnated with all sorts of flavours.

Oh and another bargin which ASDA are selling for £1.25 is a piece of wood that you can soak in either water or beer or wine for a few hours and then place this on the barbie and cook your fish, meat, chicken etc on this and it's gives it a fantastic flavour!

Make sure you soak the plank well or it will burn, and it's reuseable!!!

    SUMMER HERE WE COME!!!

Aye? Didn't know that. Can you use this plank on a gas BBQ
  • I've got a big yanky gas bbq, total waste of space you may aswell just go in the kitchen! The whole point of a bbq is that the food has more taste when burnt using charcoal! Thats why i'm ditching it in favour of a weber. I'm after a one touch gold but thanks for the links. What did the which people decide then as that link won't work.

Dont know if its the same gas as a patio heater, but we have just bought one, shopped around for gas, and found the local tool hire company cheapest and no deposit £12 for a bottle, b&q and garden centre wanted £30-40 including deposit.
    have a nice day

Its a bit daft to spend big money on a big yank BBQ and then decide thats not what you want - you must be on the wrong forum - where is the money saving in that?

I lived in Australia where they love a barbie - and they nearly all use gas too.

Slightly off topic - but I would ask everyone thinking of buying a patio heater to think about it. Its not nice for the environment. And thats putting it mildly.

There's a summary of the report in the money section of todays guardian.

    2 things to note:-

Gas V charcoal - charcoal = extra taste, BUT some bbq's come with "flavourisers" basically bits of metal that vaporise fat (which is where the extra flavour comes from).

Secondly joint winners (for gas) were the B&Q Winchester at £150 and the Landmann three-burner flatbed from woolies, also £150. They also liked the argos one mentioned already in this thread (at the rrp of £90)

    Hope this helps...
