wasp nest problem

I have a wasp nest in my compost bag. I need to move the bag so have been dropping a couple of gallons of water on the bag every few hours, with the hose pipe of course. ( I don't wanna get that close.)
Will this work or will it just pee them off?

No experience but I reckon it would pee them off, why not look in somewhere like Wilkinson's for wasp killer powder?

There is know way that is going to kill them. You are going to end up with a very very angry swarm on your hands if you are not careful.

I would have agreed with the above poster before you made them angry, but if you get that close now they could swarm and you could be badly stung.

I Know it costs money, but my advice would be to go in the yellow pages and get someone who is trained to deal with this to get rid of it safely. Sometimes your health is much more important than saving money.

I really hope you get it sorted out quickly. Good luck.:money:

put petrol on them worked wonders with the one in our shed as it disintergrates the nest in minutes

You can get a can of foam for killing wasps nests. Just spray on from 2-3m away and leave for 24hrs (or more to be safer ;)). Nippon and rentokil do these cans of foam and they cost around £4-£5 from a good ironmongers. I used this at the weekend in the loft and left for about 4 days to be safe as it's a confined space, but the nest is pretty much gone - the foam sort of dissolves it and the wasps are dead too!

    It's only a game

Do you have to move the bag right now? Could it not wait a couple of months, by which time the wasps will have gone.

They will do no harm so long as you leave them alone. I wouldn't condone trying to harm them (i.e the petrol idea!) and as already mentioned, if you antagonise them you will regret it.
If you will the end, you must will the means.

I have German mining wasps in my garden; one nest underground by the front door and one under the wild lawn out at the back. They are no problem at all, compared with the usual variety & haven't come into the house or taken any notice of us.

Unfortunately, this is only a temporary base, as I've bought another house, so I'll never know if these little wasps will cause a nuisance later in the season. I'd guess they might go for fruit when it's ripe. Going on previous form, my landlord would be too tight to employ pest control if I asked, so I've not mentioned these well established colonies. They'll be a nice surprise for him at the end of the month!

Have you tried phoning the environmental health. They did one we had a few years ago for £15. May have gone up now though.

Your correct, infact a few years ago they used to do it free, but now the councils charge about the same amount as a pest control company.

We tried the council a few years ago when we had one and were surprised just how much they charge, and also they couldnt come out for a few days, pest control came out that day, and were the same price.
