O2 broadband

Are you actually on the Dartford exchange? Check on samknows.com.
If yes, then O2 is available LLU for £7.34 (with o2 mobile discount) plus £60 Quidco, and first 2 months free.
Unless you're a long way out from the exchange then I'd be amazed if you can't improve on that speed. Have you checked at the master socket to discount any internal wiring problems? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for your reply. We are on 01322 phone number. I looked on samknows, but couldn't work out what the reply was as we seem tohave 3 different types(?) according to that site.
We signed up to BT for up to 8mbs(?). As it was going so slow, I phoned BT and they said they did a check, but because we were a long way from the exchange, we would only get 1Mb/s. I'm a 5 minute walk from the town centre, so I don't know where the exchange is.
I checked on the O2 site and they say up to 14Mb/s for my number, but does that mean we might still only get 1Mb/s?0 -
As Dartford has a dial code of 01322 and that is my code too, does that mean I am on the Dartford exchange?
On samknows, it show where the Dartford exchange is and I am about 0.3 miles from that as the crow flies. Google maps showing that if I drive all around the one way system, I am still only 0.9 miles from Dartford exchange.
I even have one of those green telephone box type things, outside my house.Have you checked at the master socket to discount any internal wiring problems?
Does that mean undoing the two screws and looking to see if a wire is hanging off? Anymore than that, then I am lost.0 -
Kerry,
I have just gone to o2 in the last few minutes so i understand your dilemma.
I am not the most pc savvy, but i checked samknows which was helpful.
I think that the info you are looking for is also on O2's website. There is a section where you can put in your phone number and it will tell you what to expect from your exchange......its the part that says'check broadband availability'...
Hope this helps.Im still learning.0 -
Hi Inforapennyinforapound.
Thanks for your reply.
O2 said up 14b/s for my number, but as BT said up to 8Mb/s and then only gave me 1Mb/s, I was wonderingif O2 would only give 1Mb/s too?
I suppose O2 are cheaper than BT, so that would be in their favour.0 -
They said they are on Be, they can't be anywhere but an LLU exchange(nor one that isn't O2 enabled)
As it stands though the can switch to O2, but won't get cashback as per the othere recent thread. The O2 system knows the number is on the Be/O2 network so you have to ring with your MAC to sort out the transfer(which isn't really a transfer) so no Quidco possible.
It dpeends on your reasons for going to O2 as you don't have an O2 mobile you aren't getting massively cheaper prices, if you just want the cheaper price then ring Be and say why you are moving and they will reduce the price but you retain your Be contract conditions rather than a new O2 contract term. My Be Pro is now £12 a month
Hello
Thanks for all the replies. I have to confess I'm a little confused though. I am currently on the Be value package at 13.50 a month. My reasons for moving were to get cashback, hopefully reduce my monthly DD and possibly get mobile broadband (although this may not reduce the DD). I know absolutely nothing about mobile broadband (or in fact broadband if I'm honest), but it would be useful to have.
I'm thinking now though that I can't get cashback by moving from Be to O2? What does this samknows website do? What do I look for on there? Sorry I am such a technophobe
GwenThough no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending0 -

What speed is predicted here (Click on BT ADSL under Summary). If you are that close to the exchange, you should be getting better speeds. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks espresso
I got this from your link to the samknows website
BT ADSL broadband availability
You are connected to the Dartford telephone exchange.
ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support a 8Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.
Standard ADSL RAG results
You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512kbps ADSL
You can receive 256kbps ADSL
You are approximately 625 metres from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!
However, there is another service on your phone line (e.g. ADSL, LLU, DACS, etc) that would prevent you from ordering a new ADSL connection.
I'm not sure what the last bit means?0 -
It just means you already have broadband so you couldnt just ring up someone and ask for it to be installed on your line, you would need to ask your current ISP for a MAC to transfer.
If you are on the Dartford exchange then it does look like you can get O2 LLU which means you WILL get more than 1Mbs as to how much more really depends on the cable length between you and the exchange plus what your internal cabling setup is like.
You can see that both Macman and I both joined O2 last week and we both saw a jump of at least 4Mbs.
As its cheaper than you're currently paying with BT I really do think its a no-brainer. Go with O2 get £50 cashback, get 2 months free and enjoy a faster connection, wheres the down side?:A:A:A:A:A:A0 -

Are you sure that you are only getting 1Mb download speed? If you are, you most likely have a problem that needs looking into. Try posting your results from here. I'm not saying that you shouldn't switch but if you have internal wiring problems your speed will be limited with any provider. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0
