O2 broadband

You may well be right about Quidco not being possible, the issue was raised on another thread but not clear if there was a way around it or not.
The price difference (without the mobile discount) is: Be £17.50, O2 £14.68. But as I said, it's worth getting an O2 mobile just to get the discount to £9.79. Add the 1st 2 months free as well and the first year saving is about £73 even without Quidco.
However since everything else is the same, I agree it's worth asking Be first if they can match the price and reduce to around £12. If not, go to 02.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Are you using the O2 supplied router? I only ask because I initially used my own Zoom x6 and only got 6.5Mbps which I thought was odd so I plugged in the O2 supplied box. I usually prefer to use my own equipment but with that kind of speed difference I'm happy to retire my Zoom to the spare drawer.
How about you post your stats so I can take a look?

Yes safesound, am using the O2 box. Had problems getting my own Zyxel router configured to O2, so thought I'd try their Thomson for a while. 6.4MBps is not far from what I'd expected, not complainng too much as it's still a 75% increase from my speed with Namesco-and for less money. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Whether you can keep your old email address would be down to f2s.
You can only get that price and speed (I presume you are talking about the O2 Premium Service? @ £9.79pm) if you are on an O2 LLU exchange.
A wireless router will not require a cable between the router and the PC, just a telephone connection between the phone socket and the router.
If your router is near to the PC, just connect with the supplied ethernet cable rather than using wireless mode. Wireless has no advantage unless your phone point is not near your PC, or if you want mobility (i.e. to connect a laptop and then use it around the house).
If you connect your PC wirelessly then you will need to buy a USB wireless adapter for your PC, which is not included with the router (about £20 usually).
Well worth switching just to rid yourself of the Tiscali/TT customer 'service'.
NB: The current 'first two months free' offer has now been extended until 31/8. Get your MAC and make sure you sign up via Quidco to get your £60 cashback.
Thanks macman,
So there is a cable to the pc then in any event unless i get the adaptor which in my case seems pointless as the phone socket is only about 4 feet from the pc.
Didnt know about Quidco. In very brief terms how does that work? Not used anything like that before and will i get loads of spam???.
Just out of interest an o2 shop said i can buy the router for £15.00 and they will refund me £30.00 for some reason but this Qudco thing sounds better?
Thank you0 -

Yes, without the wireless adapter you need an ethernet cable from the router to PC's network port. Set it up wired, you can always go wireless at a later date if you wish.
No spam at Quidco, it's simply a cashback site which is used and recommended by many people on these boards. Have a look: http://www.quidco.com/
To get the cashback you just register, and then when you have got your MAC you log into Quidco and click through to O2 to order your broadband. That's all, everything else is the same.
You can get the wireless box and filters from an O2 shop for £29.36, it's known as 'Home Broadband Takeaway'. That price is then credited against your first bill.
But it's better to sign up online to get the discounts, the box is then delivered FOC in 2 or 3 days.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Just out of interest the cashback on quidco states £50.00..........0

Indeed it does, but when I applied last week it subsequently tracked at £60. Can't guranteee you will get the same, but it's still the easiest £50 you'll ever make.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
You are so right!
And regarding an earlier post of yours,i agree that freedom to surf 'customer service' is one reason to change. 0871 numbers etc and then to keep you waiting? Not good enough i say0 -

That's another advantage with o2. Helpline is a free call, open 24/7 and it's UK based. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
We have been using BT for the last year (Option 3 package) and it is very slow. Speedtest.net just showing a download speed of 1.03Mb/s and upload speed of 0.25mbs.
Would the connection be faster if I moved to O2? I'm in Dartford?
I was paying BT £20pm and they have offered me the same (option3) for £15pm for a 12 month contract.
