I switched from SP to EDF yesterday and the £60 TopCashBack tracked overnight.

I've been with SP 6 years and have had no problems with them but the way they have handled the ending of the August 2009 fixed tariff has been abysmal.

Hi, As I said I am waiting till monday as after yesterdays call to SP nothing would surprise me if they impose the £50 penalty and keep people on their standard charge as long as possible. They can drag it out and until you are asked for the final reading, which I did three times when joining SP, then it,s reducing the profit of the switch. However, I think I will do as you monday, EDF seem to be hanging back for stragglers like me who are reluctant through loyalty, but, peed off with their antics over the fixed rate, best of luck.

Received my paperwork this morning from EDF, my Electricity change over date from SP will take place on 7th Sep, the Gas paperwork and change over date is to follow later; the information looks ok, nice and clear instructions and telephone numbers are all 0800 that's rare these days, so all looks good, but time will tell.
  • I clicked on the link in the SP email a few weeks ago to opt out of the new capped tarrif. I checked my account on line today and find that they have transfered me anyway!

Luckily I kept a screen dump of the acknowledgement page that came up after I clicked on the opt out link.

I will be changing to a new supplier in the next few days, Scottish Power really seem to have messed this up big time! I have sent them a strong complaint but dont suppose they care.

This is exactly what they have done to me too! Everyone in this situation needs to check their online account to avoid being caught out.

    Hi Coldstar,

I believe there are some customers who are due to be moved onto the standard rates, but this has not been actioned just yet.

If you want to PM me your account details I will be happy to make sure everything is as it should be with your account.

    Thanks for the info Craig,

I'm not too worried. "My Account Details" still says I'm on Fixed but the "Change my Service" screen says...

"Access to this option is temporarily unavailable as we are currently updating your account.

This should be complete within the next three days and access to this option will be available once this has been completed.

This may be because you have told us you are moving home or we are updating your product.

    Please try again later. "

I also had a call a few days ago to confirm I had opted out.

I just need to trawl the comparision tariffs again bearing in mind I need to input my now CURRENT standard SP tariff not the old capped one to see the real changes.

  • I`ve just rang Scottish Power as I was away when they emailed me about the option to opt out of capped rate. I was told that I wouldn`t have to pay a penalty to leave as I was on Capped for free rate. Does this mean I won`t have to pay as long as I leave before the end of September?

This is exactly the same message I had on my account yesterday. Today the message had gone and I had been transfered to the new capped rate (not the standard rate) so keep an eye on your account.

As mentioned in my earlier post I opted out using the link in the email some time ago. I DIDNT get a phone call to say I had opted out!

I think I only got the call because I had specifically emailed them asking for confirmation that I had indeed opted out.

I'll still check that sceen again in 3 days!
