  • Afternoon everyone!

    Today's outfit is:

    - Blue top with blue and yellow stripe insert (Next, £8)
    - Cream A line skirt (H&M, would guess about £15 but can't really remember)
    - Gold ballet pumps (New Look, £14)
    - Gold Alice band (H&M, can't remember how much it was)
    - White ribbon belt with multicoloured polka dots (Primark, can't remember how much)
    - Usual jewellery
    - Usual bag

I felt like being summery because it's the first truly nice day we've had all week!

Hope everyone's having a good day!

Actually, he finds it ''easier'' in shirts and ties, because within the boudaries there is more scope for fun with shirts/ties/cuflinks etc. His office is ''business casual'' in the City. Which most people translate as chinos. :( DH is not a chino wearer. Winter is ok: shirts/jumpers/jackets, cords. Boring but....room for colour. Summer is the time style forgot. Rules are essentially no denim, and generally a shirt withe a collar (i.e not t shirts) DH says rollnecks are seen by most of his colleagues as quite ''daring'':o. The other week I noticed he'd gone from being quite stylish to, well, clean and neat. I think he's feeling a bit low about it, but doesn't know what to do: and really, there is so much pressure in the working enironment ATM clean and neat might just be enough to cope with.

I think in winter he's going to grow his curly hair a bit: he suddenly realise he has a non-descript barber cut and looks ''like a dad'' and so maybe that will help.

The difficulty is its a sort of ''extra'' wardrobe. he still needs the suits and gubbings for them, and at the weekend he'd not wear his chino equivalents. He needs a boost, no doubt about it. Its much harder for men, though, isn't it?

I find it very hard to shop for him, but he has no time to himself really. Spending on his work wardrobe IS an investment: we wouldn't scrimp, its just a bit of.....joy and personality needed back in his life without crossing the boundary too much. :)

Oh I do feel for him. I used to work in the City myself and coming out of Liverpool Street station was like being in a movie full of shuffling clones. Some environments are so staid, aren't they? I simply don't understand how it helps productivity to have HR send little memos round about shirts being a particular shade of blue.

I do think interesting shirts are probably the best way to inject a bit of personality and joie de vivre into his life without frightening the senior partners. Ted Baker have some which are plain in colour, but have a pattern woven into the material. So from a distance they look fairly standard (albeit well fitting) but up close you can see a subtle pattern.

I also think that good quality, well made clothing feels good to wear too - so even if you look similar to everyone else you feel well turned out. I think I've forgotten about the 'work wardrobe' and 'home wardrobe' dilemma - it's been years since I had that problem!

A good haircut can do wonders as well. If he works near Liverpool Street there are a couple of great (and suitably unisex) hairdressers around the Spitalfields Market way.

How very bizarre. I'm a copywriter for an advertising agency! I suspected you were the creative type! Well hello, fellow copywriter. Nice to meet you. :)

... And you're someone who understands the ability to hoofle (great word) about on the internet during the day, too! I got lambasted by someone on here for doing just that during my working hours.

Nice to meet you too! Always great to meet someone who understands about 'Apostrophe Wars' etc.

Tell you what, I'll wear the orange shoes, either tomorrow or one day next week. That way they'll be 'official'.

I agree with your post, Lostinrates, and would second the recommendation for Ted Baker shirts...OH bought one last year along with a fine blue/white striped Ralph Lauren one, both can be worn with his Ralph Lauren chinos and tan (almost but not quite orange!) leather Loakes boots as "smart casual for meeting clients in the evening" type wear, for out of his suit/shirt/tie/cufflinks daily wear......he also bought a really nice pair of Levis, 551's I think  and another pair of black Loakes for "best" - he spent more in one shopping trip to Selfridges & Debenhams than I did all year, but then again he only shops once a year!

I think the harder problem is trousers really if you don't wear chinos and denim is verboten its hard to know where to go from there. DH just isn't a chino wearer, and cords get him through winter, he has a couple of pairs of wool/tweed trousers, pair of moleskins....its not very exciting. Its also an awkward age: not young enough to be too fashion/style driven and lightweight, not old enough to run towards middle age with acceptance (30).

The other issue, is that DH is Meditteranian, and about 5ft7 or 8 and feels a bit adrift in a ''mountainscape of Englishmen and Americans who were all on the tall boys' sports teams'':o clothes in Uk are never quite the right fit.

OrangeProse perhaps you'd recoomend the suitably unisex hairdresser? He has great hair: curly and really thick (I have curly hair too). The growing out stage will be dreadful, but I think once its a bit longer he'll look gorgeous.:D

Shoes/boots he's very good on, and often picks up while in Italy.

Is this thread not descending into "Chatter"..........?

As I have said on several occasions, I would never want to post (again) - but I do like to read - what women are wearing; end of. The rest is just waffle.

(One doesn't have to have an English degree/work (currently) in Advertising & Marketing to have a grasp of the English language or be creative enough to make up their own words.)
