[QUOTE=bargainbird;23953455] Well i've actually made the lemon cheesecake - and even used what was left to wipe over my sink
- How OS is that
I read this and had a vision of you wiping lemon cheesecake all over your sink! Seemed pretty messy to me...:rotfl::rotfl: THEN I re-read it and realised my error!Watched Economy Gastronomy last night. Nothing much new for we OS-ers and money savers but it was interesting to watch the family and remember how I used to shop. Though I have always cooked from scratch, I always just bought whatever I fancied and not care if it ended up wasted. The female chef did shock me however, just a little with all the different oils and vinegars she said were 'vital' to a store cupboard! I have two oils and two vinegars and they do for everything! My necklace arrived today and it's even more beautiful than I thought. I adore it.Checked on my broccolli plants as I was told if I cut them I would get more and sure enough they have all sent out lil baby broccolli heads which is very exciting. And we had a few ripe strawberries which were delicious with lots more green ones just turning in the beautiful hot sunshine we had yesterday. Another 4 days of it to come, according to the forecast.Tescos order due today as we discovered an empty draw in the freezer once we put all the food back in after defrosting. Dinner will be something fishy - maybe fish pie with green beans from the garden.Diva.xTo be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. Afternoon all.
Happy Birthday Jayward.
Its boiling here today! Unfortunately I can't put on any shorts until I've shaved my legs, as they resemble a forest!!!
Even in my own home I wouldn't want to see them, so will be doing that shortly, as its far too hot for jeans!
Me and DS have put together my free parasol and very cheap base (long story, but tesco paid me to take the parasol away!
). DS and DD then decided to put up a tent we have and have never used in the garden. They did a pretty good job, then I suggested they could sleep in it tonight, and they went wild, so I am officially best Mum ever!
Our garden is pretty small, and we don't possess a paddling pool, so DS has phoned his Grandad and talked him into putting the one they have there and filling it up, so they can have a play! That means a trek over there a bit later, but at least I can pick up my birthday presents that they've had for the last couple of weeks.
Lunch was very simple scrambled egg on toast for the kids, and cous cous for me. Have told kids we'll have a BBQ for tea, so need to pop to tesco and get a couple of bits.0 -
i'm feeling just a little bit smug...

Just watching the funeral of Harry Patch, the last British soldier who fought in the trenches of WW1. Made me cry and think about how almost an entire generation of young men were wiped out during that conflict. We studied it at school but hearing living history accounts really brings it home to you.
My love goes out to anyone who has family members fighting in the services right now, they do a fantastic job.
Sorry, I know it's not OS but I feel really emotional and wanted to share.

thanks kathy - I've just watched it and you're right we spend nowhere near as much as that family and I do try and cook from scratch - but sadly not all the time:o its hard as I dont eat meat and the others do so there always needs to be 2 meals cooked - cant convert them to veggie although they will suffer quorn cottage pie:DTaplady - you may think you've been slacking lately but I bet, once you have watched the programme, you'll realise how OS you really are! It will make your eyes water, seeing how much the family in question spend and just what rubbish they all eat!

halight - good luck with the job x
happy Birthday jayward:beer:
DH had a shock this morning, from the lounge windlw he saw a snake in the hedge:eek::eek::eek: OMG! it was a large grass snake half way up the hedge enjoying the sunshine! as soon as he went outside it disappeared. We knew our neighbours had them in the garden but I'd only ever seen one once about 10 years ago. DH then told me he found one a few weeks ago under a tarpaulin up the garden_pale_ I'll try and get a photo if it reappears(hope it doesn't though)
I'm up for moving to a house with a tiny garden instead of our huge wilderness as I hate reptiles and we have loads of frogs too!
anyway I'm off for a browse now
Take care all xDo what you love :happyhear0 -
taplady snake :eek::eek:
halight good news :j
Jayward happy birthday hun
back from work had lunch and now off upstairs to give everywhere a scrub
RIP harry Patch0 -
Afternoon all.
Happy Birthday Jayward
Best of luck to Halight and Miss Snoozer and anyone else job-hunting just now.
Taplady, I'm jealous - I love snakes! I did see a heron and an egret yesterday when I took Molly-Dog for her walk, though. Unfortunately, on returning from the walk, I managed to fall over, getting from the mobility scooter to the house, so my left knee is today painful, purple and swollen. Thank goodness nobody saw me - would've been most embarrassing!
I've washed my black dress today (has to be done by hand in cold water) and it's outside on the line, but I think I'll have to nip out and fetch it in, as the sky's getting extremely dark.
I'm not doing a lot else today - knee's too sore, and I still feel a bit shaken up. No need to worry about dins, we have the 2nd half of the quiche I made yesterday.
Right, it's gone dark enough to need the light on now, so I'm off to whip that dress in.If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
