This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 6th August! This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good

Morning peeps

where is everyone this morning  i`ll bet you have all decided to have a lie in :D

Nice and dry this morning and the weather forecast looks promising so i shoved a load in the washing machine before i left for w*rk this morning, it will be waiting for me to hang it all on the line when i get home. The dw was also filled and turned on but DH will empty that before he leaves the house.

Nipped to MrA last night for some of the bargains, got the tuna and some pet food but the shoulder of lamb in our branch was £4.98 per kilo instead of the £3 that lucky old N9eav paid yesterday so i decided to leave it as we have 2 chickens in the freezer which will see us through for a while.

Both houndies decided to lie in the garden this morning and watch the sun come up, it was lovely and peaceful so i took my cuppa outside and joined them, wish i could have stayed there it was so relaxing.

Offski to do some w*rk now, back later.

Have a lovely day peeps.

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

Morning sunnyday, sistercas and all to follow.

Early start here...I woke at 5am and didn't manage to get back to sleep. It's a beautiful morning with not a cloud in the sky so I want to get out into the garden and pick some broad beans, cucumbers, courgettes and tomatoes to take to step-mum who's been helping me out with washing all week since my washing machine packed up. I'll get her some flowers too as she's been an absolute star and I couldn't have got through the week without her. I need to get to the shops later too to get some last minute bits and pieces to take on holiday, finish off the packing, then last night at work tonight and we're off tomorrow. Dd is off to work today but I'm planning to rope both boys in to help out with all the last minute chores that need done.

Tea will be yellow stickered pork chops that I managed to pick up last night...if the weather stays fine I'll do them on the BBQ and we'l1l eat in the garden.

Right, I need another coffee. Hope you all have a lovely day.

    Pink

Edited to add Happy Birthday Jayward! I hope it's a good one. :bdaycake:

    Morning Chums,
off to Bluewater this morning as John Lewis' opens their new food hall.Hopefully won't spend a fortune but I must admit I do get quite tempted in JL. My eldest DD is picking me up at 10.00.a.m. so I can sit back and relax and not have to drive which makes a nice change .Looks like its going to be a scorcher in the south east today .Temp in my sitting room already at 24c and its onlt half past seven !!! Right off to jump in the shower to cool off a bit and have some breakfast .I hope everyone has a good day
    Cheers JackieO

Hi everyone. Hope you are all feeling well today.

I have the WM and BM on, and chicken defrosting for tonight's dinner - will probably make a creme fraiche sauce with leeks and mushrooms to go with the chicken and some new potatoes.

I expect most of you saw that Gastronomy Economy (or perhaps it was Economy Gastronomy?) last night. What an eyeopener that was when I think about how much some people spend on food. Next week's family spend £17000 a year - where on earth do they put it all? They must have a huge kitchen with massive freezers! I enjoyed the programme but I wish they would do their research properly; if they did, they would know about OS'ers and include the other point of view. For instance, the chap said that most people just wander round the supermarket throwing anything they fancy into the trolley, but we all know that we OS'ers wouldn't dream of doing that, don't we? Shop without a list and a meal plan - never! I know they reduced the couple's food bill to £130 a week but that is still way too much, isn't it? Anyway, I shall follow the programme with interest; it's still doing a good job educating those who don't have a clue, and some of the recipes were good!

Well, I'd better get on - I've already mioliered enough!

I have no 'thanks' button for some reason.

    Morning all,

Happy Birthday to Jayward :bdaycake:Have a great day.

Nice day here, have some towels to hang on the line before work, need to have a really good tidy round later, as the lady who is buying my house is coming back for a second look.

DD and I went and saw three houses yesterday, one of them was ok, but I did not 'love' it I will know the right one when I see it, I just hope its soon.

Kathy I watched that programme, and was shocked at the amount people waste and buy  our shopping this week came to £42, and I know even that is a lot compared to some on here, they need to come to us for lessons :D

Pink have a grat holiday xx

Chips tonight with fish fingers, so nice and easy, and then it will be off out with the dogs, I am determined that my mums dog will loose a bit of weight this week, she is a tad too big

    Have good days all xx

    mornig all...

i did whatch the economy gastronomy thing last night... and on Tuesday evening i did in face wander round the supermarket aimlessly putting some truely random items in my trolley... (i'd had a really long day, and since then i have had sandwiches for tea two nigts in a row!!!!)

i need to get a load of washing, and ironing through the 'system' tonight, as well as changing my sheets...

i could probably do with running a hoover over the top floor also, as i might have been more than a while since i did that... (i would hang my head in shame, but when it comes to hoovering i'm shameless.)

big hugs to all, and have lovely days, i hope that the weather holds up. :)

    Morning everyone.
Had a bit of a lie in this morning whoo hoo!!! Sun is out too which is finally nice to see.
Got some washing to hang out before I pop round to friends today. Seeing one friend who's a childminder and she's going to help me fill in my accounts book (as I don't have a clue!), back to my mums for lunch and then off to other friends this afternoon. Off to badminton this evening. So very little OS on the cards, I shall be exhausted at the end of this!
Was really lucky yesterday. Was round at my mums house and last year she would have a hedgehog appear in her garden and he's back. He came waddling onto the patio and started chewing a dog towel that my mum had left on the patio. He was very cute and I can't believe he was doing this in broad daylight. It was about 4.45pm. I thought these things were nocturnal? Anyway it was lovely to see so I look forward to be in a position to see him again.
Haven't read rest of yesterdays thread so will head off there.

Sunnyday - that sounds like a lovely way to start the morning :D

Mioliere - I saw some of Econ Gastron and I agree £130 is still too high. Problem with these progs is they pick the very worst cases, only buy branded goods, throw everything away, don't make anything themselves so of course they will cut their food bill. I'd like to see a family living on a more realistic budget but doubt that will ever happen. thank goodness I found here!

Hugs for those that need them.
Have a good day all OS or not.

  • Morning everyone

Haven't posted for a while.... but I now have 9 days off work :j

Don't know where to start in the house today, think I'll concentrate on the following:
    • Kitchen
    • Bathroom
    • Washing/Drying/Ironing
Have put a bag of DH's old shirts out for NSPCC this morning. Touch wood it will stay dry.

Lunch today will be toasted sandwiches, and dinner tonight will be chicken parmigiana with tagliatelle.

Well I'm going to jump in the bath, DH is at work, and DD is still in bed - might make her scrambled eggs on toast for brekkie.

    Have a great day everyone.
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)
