I think (for what its worth) that you are doing the right thing about paying some of the debt. I know you said you like the feeling of having savings but having those savings will feel much better when there are no debts plus savings0

Awwww thanks you two....glad it's not only me who thinks it's a tad excessive:rolleyes: My DD1 got an ipod Touch and she knew that was a lot for me to buy....I honestly can't beleive my friend....I added up her DDs main presents - £900 about.....what on earth?!! I have no idea what that girl will get next year as she now has everything!! Plus....she already had an ipod, laptop, DS lite and phone ... it was all updated. Makes me quite cross actually.....hope my girls don't think they're hard done by, but I don't think they do:o
Not as if they are rolling in it - far from it, tis just ridiculous. My girls think it's great that they are contributing to their own things....they know money doesn't grow on trees;)I really need to sort out a new signature!0 -

Thank you KM. Also I know that, as long as I keep at my course, I'll still have student loan money coming in. They have cut my HB because I get student loan money, but luckily because I don't spend too much and have cut outgoings down, I hardly need to use the loan money for monthly expenses....the majority of it can be saved...or used to pay off debt!! And of course, when the debts are gone, there will be more money available each month....all good I guess:DI really need to sort out a new signature!0 -
When I read what your friend had bought for her daughter I thought
And I don't care even if she is rolling in it (or not) that amount of stuff all at once would still be obscene...
I'm not tight by any stretch of the imagination and my kids have the lastest stuff (to a point) but not all at once and have to wait til the next occassion or buy it themselves.
How many pair of hands has that child got anyway to get so many gadgets all at once  Madness.0 -

Jeez totally agree that is so over the top, she will never grasp the concept of money & appreciate it.
I always thought a child had 1 main present and then smaller presents, this is what I always did with my daughter.
Enjoy your time at your sisters and wishing you a

Morning all!!
Happy New Year:D
Back home again now after a good evening at my sister's - Take That Singstar was out:o My Mum and Stepdad took us out for lunch yesterday, which was fab (and saved me cooking later;)), so when we got in at about 5ish I took all the decorations down. Trees are back up the attic, just have a box of all the decs to haul up there today. Noce to have the lounge uncluttered again. Much as I love the decs going up, I'm always happy to get back to normal:D
Not much on today - girls are going to stay with their dad tonight, just from 1ish today til lunchtime tomorrow. I must do some Uni work, I'm getting to the stage when I really worry about how much I've got again....must pull my finger out.
Here's a list for this weekend:- Put last of decorations up the attic
- washing done then on airer
- sort out recyclying/rubbish for Monday's collection - we missed 2 collections, 1 cos of snow and the other was bank hol, so have tons:rolleyes:
- sort out huge piles of chocolates/biscuits in tins etc on my dining table - hide them under the stairs I think
- empty airing cupboard of clean washing
- tidy girls room
- dust/hoover through upstairs
- hoover down the stairs
- wash girls bedding
- gas/electric meter readings and send online
- check food for next week - don't think I need much, if anything
- ironing
- bags ready for back to school
- Uni work...lots of it:eek:
- tidy desk
- sort out new notebook for the year and start spending diary
I got given a little 2010 diary for Christmas so am going to use it as a spending diary - I tried last year but lost momentum around Feb:o Had a good start - yesterday was an NSD (bro in law bought our drinks in the pub at lunchtime:p)
Time to go have a shower....girls still asleep. I don't intend leaving the house today......bliss;)I really need to sort out a new signature!0
