I have read the whole thread, and I am really worried if they take away DLA.
My son receives high rate DLA he is severly autistic and has severly learning disablities [he has the mind of a 5 yr old and he 22]. I use his DLA for respite care and day centre cost. I couldnt cope if he didnt have respite because he is a very poor sleeper [sleeps for less than 4hrs a night] and I do everything for him, help him dress, wash, brush his teeth, even shave him do all his food, washing etc. He goes to respite every other weekend at a cost of £30 per night to us [I would send him every weekend if I could afford it], if I lost that I couldnt cope physically or mentally. I know his day centre is paid for however the activities are not nor is his lunch or transport costs [bus £1 a day, food £3 a day], if he didnt have the activities he would simply be stuck in a day room all day with nothing to do.
Even though my husband works [yes and he pays tax] I cannot work [I tend to get some sleep during the day also if my son was off sick no employer will put up with you taking days off, beleive me ive tried] we could never afford the respite costs out of his wages and I dont beleive for one second that SS would cover all his needs.
I am worried sick at mo [and actually crying as i write this] that if they do take DLA away I will have to take the decision that I will have to put him in residental care home which will cost the Governemtn far more than the £70 they give to him now.0 -

I would say at the moment not to panick because it is only a greenpaper at the moment.
You are the type of claimant that I support who uses DLA for what it is intended for.
Are you claiming CA for him? Just checking so that your NI conts are up to date or that you are getting HRP!0 -

Hi alwaysonthego.
I know its only a greenpaper at mo but been a very stressful week, very little sleep and its not son's week for respite so emotions are running away with me.......also both my parents are disabled [mam rheumatoid arthritis and dad both knees need replacing and he has an abnormal heard rate which causes sudden blackouts] mam has DLA which pays for a cleaner and someone to do their washing and ironing and cut the grass if they lost that too I would have to take on the jobs I already help with dressing and washing and shopping dont think I could cope with much more.
Yes I claim CA thanks0 -

My point is that I have exactly the same right to an opinion even though i no longer pay taxes,as you who seems to be a current tax payer has,if you dont believe that or even understand that then perhaps you belong NOT in the uk but in hitlers germany. And what is your point? Or was that just a rant?0 -
Hi
I have set up a group page on facebook to highlight the government plans to abolish DLA and AA
I cannot put the link on here as i am a newbie so please message me
The more people that know about this will hopefully thwart the goverments plans
It is only by direct action by those who will be affected and those who understand that they could be affected in the future that these draconian new rules will be strangled at birth.True DLA atm may not be affected by the current greenpaper BUT have NO doubts that this govt and the incoming tory govt will target DLA in the coming couple of years, they obviously see it as an easy way to "save" money by targeting the weakest and most vunerable in society, the fight to protect what is RIGHTFULLY ours must start now.All this talk on this thread about what DLA should be spent on is totally irrelevant,DLA was introduced to compensate the disabled for lost wages and to fund whatever they see fit to make their lives easier day to day,be that a PS3 or anything they or their parents chose.0 -

Using that line of argument is not going to make the government change their mind nor have a average tax payer wanting to support DLA if they think that DLA claimants are using it to fund PS3s etc.
Although I know many people who are struggling for money and their DLA is used for increased heating costs, daycare etc which in my mind is what it should be used for. People should not be allowed to fritter it away on non-essentials and instead it should go to someone more needy of the money such as government slave.0 -
What does Hitlers Germany have to do with anything? My point is that I have exactly the same right to an opinion even though i no longer pay taxes,as you who seems to be a current tax payer has,if you dont believe that or even understand that then perhaps you belong NOT in the uk but in hitlers germany.
Hitler denied everyone the vote - I'm simply valuing my opinion over others - I would never dream of supporting a totalitarian regime unless it managed to be in favour of everything that I am.0 -

The same govt slaves who`s more than generous pension schemes are doing more to bankrupt the country than DLA ever will?0
